Arsenal out to 7/2 for top-four finish after blunder at Bournemouth

Troubled Arsenal are going to have to win this season’s Europa League Final if they are to avoid another campaign without Champions League football, according to bookmaker BetVictor.

January continues to be a miserable month for the Gunners, both on the pitch and off it.

Off the field they appear resigned to losing star man Alexis Sanchez to Manchester City or Manchester United, while on it they have already seen their defence of the FA Cup come to an end with an embarrassing defeat at Championship side Nottingham Forest in the third round.

So the last thing they needed was a defeat at Bournemouth on Sunday, but that is exactly what happened.

The absence of Sanchez and Mesut Ozil from the squad for the game all but confirmed that both men will be moving on in the not-so-distant future, and the mood among the supporters was hardly helped as they saw their side squandered a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 at the Vitality Stadium, with this fan’s post-match review saying all you need to know about the result and performance…

That defeat means Arsenal have lost more ground on the Premier League’s top five clubs this weekend and, as a result, BetVictor has now pushed them out to 7/2 for a top-four finish that would seal a return to the Champions League next season.

Runaway league leaders Manchester City are, understandably, missing from this market, but there are still four teams ahead of the Gunners in the betting with both Chelsea and Manchester United leading the way at 1/6.

Liverpool are 1/3 for a top-four finish while Arsenal’s bitter rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, are considered Even-money contenders following their 4-0 demolition of Everton on Saturday evening.
