Egypt v Cameroon Betting Tips Explained

Egypt are just one win away from a record-setting eighth Africa Cup of Nations crown after they battled past Burkina Faso in the semi-finals. The Egyptians were taken to penalty kicks after Mohamed Salah’s opener was cancelled out, but they kept their nerve during the shootout and veteran Essam El Hadary made himself the hero by keeping out Bertrand Traore’s spot-kick.

Egypt will now make a record-equalling ninth appearance in an Africa Cup of Nations Final, but standing between them and another title are four-time winners Cameroon. The Indomitable Lions were expected to bow out when they faced Ghana in the semi-finals, but they capitalised on a poor performance by the Black Stars as second half goals from Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui and Christian Bassogog wrapped up a shock 2-0 victory.

But can they spring another upset on Sunday? I believe they can. Cameroon’s defence has really been on top of its game with three straight clean sheets, and the last two have been particularly impressive because they have kept out the likes of Sadio Mane and the Ayew brothers. That resolute defence is a big reason for my confidence here because it is coming up against an Egypt side that has managed only one goal in the past four games and hardly inspired as they scraped past Burkina Faso.

It is also a big reason why I am predicting a goalless first half at Stade d'Angondje. There have been no first-half goals during Cameroon’s two games in the knockout stage so far and Egypt’s five games so far have produced just one goal before the break. This is likely to be a very tense affair and neither side is going to take unnecessary risks during the first 45 minutes of the game, meaning there should be a lack of goal-mouth action and the absence of a goal before half-time whistle is blown.
