X Factor 2010 odds: Has Cheryl Cole KO'd Katie Waissel?

Simon Cowell criticises song choice for comeback queen on Rock night

Just a week after avoiding yet another slip into the bottom two, Katie Waissel is being tipped by bookmakers to be back under pressure after Simon Cowell expressed fears that Cheryl Cole may have sabotaged her own act's chances of reaching the semi-finals of X Factor 2010.

On Rock night, Katie earned rave reviews for her first track Sex On Fire by Kings of Leon, but then Simon felt her second song, Everybody Hurts by REM, just did not work in the restricted time allowed.

"Katie, this is you at your best when you know that you've maybe only got one song left, but the frustrating thing is that song does not work in that time period," declared the leading judge. "It was chopped up like crazy and Cheryl should have known better on that.

"The song needs longer and I don't think you've been given the right opportunity at this stage in the competition. With another 30 or 60 seconds on that it would have been fantastic but it was just crazy.

"I'm frustrated because you know I'm a massive, massive fan of yours Katie, and I hope people can look beyond what I think was a huge mistake there. I'm not blaming Katie, she did absolutely everything she could do with that song, I'm just saying it's crazy trying to chop it into the time available."

Cheryl defended the song choice, stating: "I think that's one of the most beautiful songs ever written and you did it justice. We had the same amount of time as everybody else and I think you filled it beautifully."

However, Katie is again among the favourites to be the next act eliminated, this time alongside Mary Byrne after Dannii Minogue accused the Dublin diva of sliding "towards karaoke" with her second song.

Wagner was praised for his rendition of the Blur hit Creep but was back to his awful worst with Robert Palmer's Addicted To Love and he too could finally be in the firing line this week.
