WWE Royal Rumble 2018 predictions, betting tips & betting odds: Best bets as the road to WrestleMania begins

WWE Royal Rumble 2018 predictions for the pay per view on Sunday, January 28. Who will win the two over-the-top-rope matches and who will leave Philadelphia as a champion? Read on for all of our free predictions and betting tips.

The Royal Rumble has been an annual fixture on the WWE calendar since it was debuted way back in 1988, and it remains one of the most popular events due to the impact it has on WrestleMania. The 2018 event will be an historic one, because not only will it feature a men’s Royal Rumble bout, it will also feature the first ever women’s Royal Rumble match.

The rules are simple. Two competitors start in the ring and every two minutes (some years it has been less) another joins the fray. This happens until all 30 participants have entered the ring, and elimination is simple because the only way to lose in this match is to be thrown over the top rope. The last competitor standing is the winner and receives a title shot at WrestleMania.

WWE Royal Rumble 2018 Predictions

The WWE have done a poor job of building up a field of potential winners for the first ever Women’s Royal Rumble match and that is reflected in the odds with Asuka the clear favourite from the full-time roster. However, there is one woman ahead of her in the betting – former UFC champion Ronda Rousey. Rousey’s UFC career appears to be over and she has been linked with a move to WWE for several months now. This week she dismissed speculation that she could turn up at the Rumble on Sunday, insisting she would be in Colombia due to film commitments, but this is professional wrestling we are talking about and there have been many times over the years where someone has denied they would appear at an event, only to then show up. Despite her comments, I still believe we will see Ronda in Philadelphia. I expect a group of wrestlers to dump out Asuka in order to protect the aura WWE have built around the Japanese star in one-on-one matches, and with the former NXT champion out of the way the buzzer will sound for Number 30. Rousey will step into the arena, walk that aisle, take out the remaining participants and book her place in a title match at WrestleMania. Rousey v Charlotte Flair… that has money written all over it.

My second recommendation comes from a more unique market because Unibet is allowing customers to bet on who will eliminate selected competitors from the Men's Royal Rumble match. There is a market for who will throw out John Cena on Sunday and there are two men to consider in this market – Elias and The Undertaker. Cena will reportedly face The Undertaker at WrestleMania in April and a way to get to that match is for the legendary ‘Deadman’ to dump the Hall of Fame-bound star out of the Rumble match itself. However, I have another scenario in mind. Elias and Cena have been feuding on television since Christmas and are expected to go one-on-one at the next PPV, so perhaps we could see ‘The Drifter’ capitalise on Cena being distracted by some sort of Undertaker appearance/presence. Elias could dump out the former champion, who then gets his revenge at the February PPV before going on to face The Undertaker in New Orleans.

  • The first Royal Rumble featured only 20 men and since then it has featured the traditional 30-man line-up, with the exception of 2011 when 40 men appeared.
  • The 1993 Royal Rumble, won by Yokozuna, was the first time the winner of the match was guaranteed a title shot at WrestleMania.
