William Hill punter loses 70lbs & gains £2500 with weight-loss bet

A William Hill customer has been shedding the pounds in order to make the bookmakers’ bank balance a little lighter.

Rob Leigh-Bryant, 31, tipped the scales at almost 21 stone after he piled on the pounds following the death of his mother in 2014, but he was determined to shed the weight during 2015 and placed a £50 with William Hill that he could lose 70lbs by the end of the year.

The bookies gave the Bournemouth man odds of 50/1 about him being able to lose approximately a quarter of his body weight in that time, and Rob has been laughing his way to the bank after dropping the weight and bashing the bookie to a tune of £2,500.

“It was all about exercise and healthy eating, but I am glad I did it this has completely changed my life,” he said. “I'd seen a story in the papers about a man who placed a bet to lose his weight and that's when I decided to do the same.
“William Hill has literally put years on my life. I have never won anything like this at 50-1. I needed determination to get the job done and the bet was my motivation to help me reach my goal, but it was a long tough year.”

William Hill has taken large amount of bets on weight loss over the years, but Rob’s efforts have been one of the most costly for the bookmaker, with spokesman Rupert Adams confirmed it is in the top 10 pay-outs from bets on dieting.

“When he called to say he had succeeded we were flabbergasted,” Rupert said. “This is an amazing achievement and he deserves his winnings.”
