Two-horse race for Strictly Come Dancing? Ashley ignored as Joe joins Stacey at head of betting

Joe Sugg made his move for Strictly Come Dancing glory in Blackpool, according to the bookmakers.

Social media star Joe has been chasing Stacey Dooley in the betting for several weeks now, with the bookies considering him her only real rival for the Glitterball Trophy, and a strong showing at the Tower Ballroom on Saturday night has finally forced their hand in the ‘Winner’ market.

It was not all glowing reviews from the judges, with hard-to-please Craig Revel-Horwood only offering an eight, but Joe did receive 10s from the three other judges as his score of 38 earned him a share of second place on the leaderboard, and Ladbrokes has responded by trimming his odds into 7/4.

That makes Joe the joint favourite to win the show alongside Stacey, who received positive reviews despite a disappointing score of 33, but there has been little movement behind them and that is somewhat surprising considering the sensational form that Ashley Roberts has been in.

The former Pussycat Doll arrived at in Blackpool in excellent form having scored 39 in each of the previous weeks, but she took her game to a whole new level with her jive to ‘Shake Ya Tail Feather’ by The Blues Brothers.

Ashley earned the 2018 series’ first perfect score of 40, with Bruno Tonioli claiming the performance will “become part of Strictly history”, but for some reason the bookmakers and punters are still not getting behind the American and, as a result, she remains locked on 6/1 to lift the Glitterball Trophy.

Faye Tozer is now the only other celebrity shorter than double figures at this time, but the former Steps band-member has seen her odds drift out to 7/1 despite her scoring 38 to finish tied for second place on the leaderboard this past weekend.

There has been movement behind her with Charles Venn coming into 12/1 and Lauren Steadman drifting out to 20/1, while Graeme Swann’s stock has never been lower and he now finds himself out at 100/1 to win the series after surviving a dance-off with Kate Silverton.

Latest Ladbrokes Odds

Strictly Come Dancing Winner: 7/4 Joe Sugg, 7/4 Stacey Dooley, 6/1 Ashley Roberts, 7/1 Faye Tozer, 12/1 Charles Venn, 20/1 Lauren Steadman, 100/1 Graeme Swann.
