Next James Bond betting odds, news and predictions

The bookmakers have slashed their odds on Tom Hardy becoming the next James Bond after the 39-year-old Englishman hinted at his interest in taking over from Daniel Craig.

Craig has been holding the ‘Licence To Kill’ ever since the franchise was rebooted back in 2006, but following the completion of the 2015 smash hit ‘SPECTRE, the 48-year-old insisted he had no intention of returning to play the role for a fifth time.

“I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists,” Craig told timeout.com. “No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on. If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money.”

Craig reportedly snubbed a £68million deal to play Bond for a fifth time last year, and ever since then speculation has been rampant about who could replace him as the world’s most famous secret agent.

Tom Hiddleston was an early front-runner, but his popularity dwindled following claims his relationship with country music singer Taylor Swift had made him “too high-profile” for the role and he has drifted right out of the picture.

‘Poldark’ star Aiden Turner replaced him as the favourite to take over the ‘Licence To Kill’ but he is now out to a 5/2 third favourite at William Hill with ‘Happy Valley’ actor James Norton the 7/4 favourite for the role.

However, Norton could face some serious competition for the job in the form of Hardy, who has most recently been working on television show ‘Taboo’.

The 39-year-old has been linked with the Bond job for several years and he has seemingly admitted his interest in the taking over fromCraig – by not saying anything at all.

“There’s a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting,” Hardy told the Daily Beast, “If you talk about it you’re automatically out of the race. So I can’t possibly comment on that one!”

William Hill has responded to those comments by cutting Hardy’s odds on becoming the next James Bond from 10/3 to 2/1, making him the second favourite in the 007 betting market.

“By not expressly saying that he wants the role, Hardy appears to have thrown his hat into the ring,” William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly told Bettingpro.com. “An actor of his standing and quality would only benefit the Bond brand and we had no option but to cut his odds of bagging the role.”

Latest William Hill odds:

Next James Bond after Daniel Craig: 7/4 James Norton; 2/1 Tom Hardy; 5/2 Aidan Turner; 6/1 Jack Huston; 8/1 Henry Cavill; 9/1 Idris Elba; 16/1 Theo James; 20/1 BAR
