Eurovision Betting at Sky Bet

SkyBet are pushing out the Eurovision Boat on Saturday

Eurovision betting at Sky Bet is really hotting up as Saturday’s grand final fast approaches.

The United Kingdom have been more popular than in many years in the 2009 Eurovision betting. Thanks to the help of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, the UK could record its best finish for seven years and Jade Ewen has been all the rage with patriotic punters in the run-up to Moscow, having been backed down to 10/1 from 33/1.

Sky Bet’s Eurovision betting expert, Helen Jacob told Bettingpro this afternoon: “We always amass big liabilities on the UK but normally I’m not worried about paying out as our songs have been so desperate in recent years. This year, however, I am growing increasingly apprehensive about the potential big payout as Jade has an excellent draw in 23rd, has weak songs preceding and following her and is a truly fantastic singer. What’s more, the introduction of the national juries and having Andrew Lloyd Webber on stage should also go in her favour.”

Betting on Eurovision has not been so exciting for UK fans since Katrina and the Waves in 1997. Jade is now odds-on to finish highest of the ‘big 4’ countries. Germany, Spain, the UK and France automatically qualify for the final and the UK has been backed down to 10/11 favourite (from 7/4) to outperform the other automatic qualifiers. France (9/4) is a big threat in this market as well known diva Patricia Kaas is tipped to give the French their best finish for years.

Sky Bet offer 15/8 for the United Kingdom to finish in the first six on Saturday and 6/4 for them to rank between 7th and 12th. The UK has finished in the last five five times out of the last 6 years but Sky Bet deem this unlikely to happen again in 2009 quoting 9/2 for a 19th to 24th finish.

After a strong performance in Thursday’s semi-final and securing a second-half draw in the final, Norway are now Sky Bet’s odds-on favourites at 10//11 to win on Saturday. 23-year-old Alexander Rybak is the hottest favourite the competition has seen since Cliff Richard and ‘Congratulations’ and it looks like Eurovision will be heading to Oslo in 2010.

Sky Bet’s Helen Jacob said: “Norway are the most hyped act going into Saturday’s final and now that they have been drawn in 20th spot, they will be very hard to beat indeed. Frontman, Alexander Rybak, is actually Belarusian, so this year the ex-Soviet countries and the Nordics are likely to align and throw their considerable joint weight behind Norway, which makes them an unstoppable force in my eyes.”

Sky Bet will be betting in-play during the grand final on May 16th.
