Christmas Number One betting odds: NHS tribute song slashed to 12/1 for top spot on December 25

Bookmaker William Hill can report a couple of interesting movements in the Christmas Number One single market with a new contender entering the betting at 12/1.

“Thank U NHS” by The General Public ft Johnny Vegas and Shaun Ryder is the joint fourth favourite alongside Mariah Carey to swoop in and claim the festive top spot.

Despite having two songs in the running, Ed Sheeran’s odds are on the drift from 1/9 to 1/6 at William Hill, while George Michael/Wham has been slashed from 7/1 to 4/1 making him/them clear second favourites.

“Even though Ed Sheeran is still an incredibly short price to claim Christmas number one, his odds are drifting and this race perhaps isn’t over just yet,” William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly told Bettingpro.com.

But while the race is not over for Sheeran, it appears to be over for this year’s X-Factor winners.

Boyband Rak-Su are now out at 16/1 to be the first show winner to top the charts on Christmas Day since Ben Haenow claimed the number one spot in 2014.

Latest William Hill Odds

Christmas number one: 1/6 Ed Sheeran (Solo OR Duet); 4/1 Wham/George Michael; 8/1 Rita Ora; 12/1 Mariah Carey; 12/1 The General Public ft Johnny Vegas & Shaun Ryder; 16/1 Adele; 16/1 Rak-Su; 25/1 BAR
