Bookies suspend Royal Baby Name betting after big rush for Alexander

Have William & Kate chosen 'Alexander'? (credit: Chris Jackson/Getty Images)

Bookmaker William Hill has suspended betting on the name of the Royal baby after a flurry of bets for Prince William & Kate to opt for Alexander.

Arthur had been the bookies’ favourite at 11/4 despite support for Albert on Wednesday morning, which resulted in the name being shortened all the way into 11/2, but it appears as though neither of those names have been chosen, if the latest run of bets is to be believed.

A “major gamble” on William & Kate’s third child to be called Alexander forced William Hill to slash its odds from 14/1 to Even money in the space of an hour, and the bookmaker has now taken the decision to close the market believing there may be something to this flurry of interest.

“This is the second gamble since the Prince was born and with an announcement presumably just around the corner, we are taking this one very seriously,” William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly told Bettingpro.com.

“Both George and Charlotte were well backed in the final hours before the announcement of their names and this looks like a similar gamble.”
