Stacey v Joe? Bookies still predicting two-horse race for Strictly Come Dancing title

Stacey Dooley is once again the sole favourite to win Strictly Come Dancing, but the bookmakers believe it is still a two-horse race between her and Joe Sugg to life the Glitterball Trophy.

Stacey has been heading up the betting for several weeks now, but a string of underwhelming scores from the judges had allowed Joe Sugg the opportunity to close the gap and join the documentary film maker at the summit prior to last Saturday night’s live show.

She did not enjoy the best of times in the Lindy Hop-athon as she placed fourth, but her routine with professional dancer Kevin Clifton did catch the judges’ eyes and they rewarded her with her first 10s of the series, giving her a score of 39 that saw her finish second on the overall leaderboard behind Faye Tozer.

That strong showing, and those timely 10s, have resulted in bookmaker Ladbrokes going Even-money about Stacey winning Strictly Come Dancing 2018, with Joe drifting out to 2/1 after his routine divided the judges, with Shirley and Bruno dishing out 10s to counter the 7 from Craig and 8 from Darcey.

Faye is the big mover in the market, coming into 8/1 after she finished second in the Lindy Hop-athon and scored 39 for her waltz, while Ashley Roberts is heading in the opposite direction after a mixed weekend for the former Pussycat Doll.

Ashley had been racking up high scores in recent weeks and she did win the Lindy Hop-athon on Saturday night, but her score of 36 for her individual dance was her lowest for quite some time and that left her in a dance-off with Graeme Swann.

Ashley won it to survive, but before making his exit Graeme made a swipe about Ashley keeping some previous professional dance training quiet during the show and that is unlikely to be something that sits well with fans who felt she has had an unfair advantage from the start.

Even when she was racking up high scores punters failed to get behind Ashley in the betting, and now that she is out to 12/1 to win the show the bookmakers believe she may need the judges’ help just to reach the final.
