Can England avoid a series whitewash when they take on the West Indies in the third Test, starting Saturday? Read on for our predictions and betting tips for the 3rd Test between the West Indies and England.

West Indies brought memories of old domination, as England were walloped in the first two Tests. The Wisden Trophy is already won by the Windies, who now have a great chance to inflict a series whitewash. The third and final Test will be played at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St. Lucia. Starting from Saturday February 9th, both sides will look to get one up over the opponents.

West Indies Match Preview

Strong all-round performance from Jason Holder (229 runs, seven wickets) was the cornerstone of the Windies’ wins. However, captain Holder is suspended for this match. Shane Dowrich (147 runs, Avg. 73.50) has been equally good for the Windies, while four other batsmen aggregate 100.

Kemar Roach (13 wickets) has been the wrecker-in-chief for the hosts, with his control finding no answers from England. Roston Chase (eight wickets) has enjoyed his role as the lone spinner, while Alzarri Joseph (seven wickets) has shown signs of maturing into a better bowler.

England Match Preview

England were all over the place with their poor patience and application. All four innings of the series so far witnessed an England collapse. The visitors scored 77, 246, 187 & 132 in the series till now – not a great way to compete in a Test series.

Patience hasn’t been England’s virtue this series – just like the second innings in Antigua lasting just 211 minutes. Only two batsmen aggregate 100+ this series, while bowling hasn’t been any penetrative as compared to the Windies’ bowlers.

Match Up

The Windies did everything right so far in the series, managing to cull out the English bowling with loads of patience. The absence of Holder takes the sheen out of their side, but the Windies will hope to cover for his absence.

England look unsettled and imbalanced as they search for improvements to salvage some pride. Unless they start getting runs from the top-order, England will not be able to get out of their poor situation.

History & Statistics

  • West Indies have whitewashed England only once before on home soil – a 5-0 win in 1986.
  • The last time England were whitewashed in Tests was in the 2013/14 Ashes.
  • England haven’t lost three Tests in a row since doing so against Australia in December 2017.
  • England have now lost 11 of their last 16 away Tests.

Key players

As the stand-in captain and their best bet at the top of the order Brathwaite has a lot resting on his shoulders in this Test. He needs to chip in not just with runs, but also with his decisions on the field.

England need to be back at their aggressive best, and the one who can get them on that plane is Stuart Broad. The pugnacious fast bowler can be England’s key to redemption.

Conclusion

England are certainly at the lowest point of their confidence at the moment, but the absence of Holder evens out things in this contest. West Indies will have to search for another hero, but the chance to make it a whitewash should help them in keeping the tempo.
