Sri Lanka vs New Zealand 1st Test Predictions

Sri Lanka vs New Zealand Betting Tips

Match Winner

Sri Lanka may have had the better of things in this fixture on home turf over the last few matches as they have won three of their last four between the pair, while the last Test between the pair came at the back end of 2018, a match New Zealand actually won by a massive 423 runs. The struggles of Sri Lanka at the World Cup were well documented but is likely something most will cite comes in the 50 over game, but they have been poor for some time now across all formats of cricket. The fact Lasith Malinga, who was very good for Sri Lanka at the World Cup, is no longer a part of the squad will hurt the home side as he has been their best bowler for some time. In his place, someone will need to step up and it will be interesting to see whether the likes of Vishwa Fernando will step up and take up the mantle.

New Zealand meanwhile arrive without the misfiring Martin Guptill in their squad meaning Henry Nicholls and Jeet Raval are likely to open for the side while mercurial run scorers in the shape of Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor will likely follow, while we are excited to see the likes of Tim Southee and Trent Boult with the ball again, although William Somerville and Ajaz Patel will probably have big roles in the series as the spinning tops in Sri Lanka will give the pair some real help with getting the ball to talk. With their impressive batting and bowling coupled with the struggles of Sri Lanka, who have only won twice in their last nine Tests, it means we are backing the tourists to go 1-0 up in the series and continue the good feeling following what was an impressive World Cup in England.

To Score A Fifty

One man that has absolutely excelled in recent years in all formats of the game is Kane Williamson. The New Zealand captain has been scoring runs for fun for years and he has established himself as one of the best batsmen in the game today. Currently sitting in second in the Test batsmen rankings behind only Virat Kohli, he completely warrants this because of his ability and exploits, with the New Zealand captain piling on the runs over the years. Since 2013 his average has not dipped below 41.50 in Tests, while he has been at 59.18 or above in the last three years too. Impressively, Williamson holds an average of 274.00 in 2019 after two Tests with two innings resulting in 274 runs along with a high score of 200 not out.

He was also a player that became the sweetheart of this summer’s World Cup as his New Zealand side were beaten at the very last by England, while he continued his good form with the bat as he notched 578 runs seeing him finish as the third highest runs scorer at the tournament. In 2019 he has looked very good then and has notched a century and a half-century in both of his innings so far and, with this in mind, we feel backing the captain to go past the 50 runs mark is a bet worth backing at 11/8 with William Hill. More recently, the Black Caps have managed to remain unbeaten in their last seven, winning six and drawing just once as they have really put their opponents to the sword and we think they will keep up this trend, with Williamson leading the charge.
