South Africa vs West Indies Betting Tips

These two sides come into the latest World Cup warm-up wanting wins for different reasons, with the former looking in good touch coming into the match, while the Windies need to win to get back on track following a difficult run across all forms of the game.

South Africa’s last game saw the side easily beat Sri Lanka in a clash which they were expected to win. Valuable time in the middle for Faf du Plessis (88) and Hashim Amla (65) helped the Proteas onto a strong 338/7 and they did not ever look like they would let Sri Lanka get close to their score as they skittled them for just 251 in 42.3 overs as Andile Phehlukwayo (4/36) demolished the ailing side’s batting lineup. The West Indies meanwhile have not been in the best of form of late as they have been beaten twice on the bounce by Bangladesh (both times by five wickets), with the outfit not coming into the tournament in much form. Their impressive showing against England seems a long time ago now, and they will need to be in far better form than when they were beaten comfortably by Bangladesh in their Tri-Nations Series final.

The betting reflects the form of the two then with South Africa 4/6 with William Hill, while the Windies are longer at 6/5, but they offer no value when considering their inconsistency. Our one to back here is South Africa then, although their lack of value and the fact that the West Indies do have the ability to spring a surprise as their batting is something that can go very big means we would not recommend it.

In this one we are looking to back South Africa’s captain who offers decent value at 7/2. Du Plessis is an incredibly impressive player that displayed his range of hitting in his last match and he continues to impress in 2019 with a superb average of 71.17 following three fifties and a century in nine innings. His rise in 2019 comes at the perfect time for South Africa as the World Cup nears, although the return to form for Amla, who is also 7/2 to top score, does not fill us with confidence in his ability to consistently top score as he has not been like the Amla of old following a dip in what was unbelievably good form. For the Windies we cannot look past Chris Gayle at the top of the order as he is 11/4 and, with an average of 106.00 in four innings for the Windies in 2019 which have featured two centuries and two half-centuries. We feel 11/4 offers good value considering this.
