Can South Africa finally get a win at the Cricket World, or will Afghanistan spring a shock on their struggling opponents? Read on for our best bets for this Cricket World Cup match.

South Africa vs Afghanistan Predictions

South Africa vs Afghanistan Betting Tips

Put simply, South Africa simply have to win this game or they will be out of contention for a semi-final spot, and you would assume a number of careers will be over for many of the players in this underperforming outfit. Four games have resulted in three losses and a no result, with their only points of the tournament coming from an abandoned game against the West Indies. Afghanistan meanwhile come into this one knowing that they have a massive chance to pick up a win and put their opponents at the bottom of the table. A close run loss to Sri Lanka was sandwich by heavy defeats to Australia and New Zealand, but they will be all too aware of what happened last time they took on a struggling superpower, with the Sri Lankans limping to victory in a game Afghanistan definitely could have won. This is a huge chance for both sides to pick up two points then, with neither in any position to let a victory pass them by.

Match Winner

This is a difficult one to call when considering the form of the two sides and the odds. South Africa are massive favourites to win this one at 1/7, while Afghanistan are 9/2 with William Hill. South Africa come into this one on the back of a three-match losing streak with losses to England, Bangladesh and India seeing the side slip down the table. However, the Proteas are still a team full of world class players, with the likes of Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock providing the power with the bat, while Kagiso Rabada and Imran Tahir take wickets on a very regular basis. If the afore-mentioned players can fire in this one then they will put Afghanistan under a huge amount of pressure, and this will surely tell against a cricketing nation that is still finding it’s feet at this level of the game. Afghanistan meanwhile can call upon Rashid Khan with the ball, but the Proteas will surely have far too much for their opponents who rely on his ability to spin the ball and take wickets whilst keeping his economy rate low. Of course, it should be noted that South Africa are on a torrid run of form that sees the side in real trouble of missing out on the semi-final spots, but they should prove too strong for a nation that are definitely improving, but still not on the same level as the floundering superpower.
