Royal Challengers Bangalore secured their first win of the IPL season against Kings XI Punjab on Saturday, and now the side will be looking to put together a run of wins in an attempt to make the playoffs this year.

What a game it was on Saturday evening as the Royal Challengers Bangalore defied the odds to pick up their first win of the IPL season against a much-fancied Kings XI Punjab side. Batting first, KXIP amassed a competitive 173/4 as Chris Gayle (99 not out) was left stranded just a single run short of his hundred. In reply, captain Virat Kohli (67) and AB de Villiers (59 not out) did most of the heavy lifting as the side got home with eight wickets and four balls to spare.

Victory means RCB now move onto two points for the season, with their first win in seven attempts huge for the side. KXIP meanwhile stay on eight points, with their fourth loss of the season seeing them slip outside of the top-four.

Following RCB’s win, their odds have shortened with regard to making the top four this year, with the side now 5/1 with Paddy Power, ahead of Rajasthan Royals (8/1), who chalked up their second win of the campaign on Saturday courtesy of a nail biting win over Mumbai Indians, meaning they have moved onto four points, four short of Delhi Capitals in fourth.

At the other end of the scale, league leaders Chennai Super Kings are huge odds-on favourites at 1/40 to finish in the top four, with Kolkata Knight Riders (who CSK play on Sunday) next up at 2/9, while last season’s beaten finalists Sunrisers Hyderabad and a rejuvenated Mumbai Indians (both 4/9) completing the top four favourites.

Paddy Power - Indian Premier League Top Four Betting Odds:

Chennai Super Kings - 1/40

Kolkata Knight Riders - 2/9

Sunrisers Hyderabad - 4/9

Mumbai Indians - 4/9

Delhi Capitals - 1/2

Kings XI Punjab - 7/4

Royal Challengers Bangalore - 5/1

Rajasthan Royals - 8/1
