India vs Pakistan Predictions

What a massive game we have to look forward to on Sunday as two of cricket’s biggest rivals collide at Old Trafford. India and Pakistan’s incredible battles of the past have lit up the cricketing world, and India will be looking for revenge after their shock 180 run loss to their opponents in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final, with India allowing Pakistan to build an impressive score of 338 before they collapsed in very un-India like fashion, with the likes of Virat Kohli (5) and MS Dhoni (4) unable to get their side going. Now, India have the chance to hugely strengthen their own semi-final hopes, while they can really put Pakistan under pressure by consigning them to their third loss of the tournament. Pakistan’s two other losses came against West Indies and Australia, although they did beat England in a very impressive performance in their second game. India meanwhile have not tasted defeat yet with victories over South Africa and Australia impressive ones, although they had to stomach a no result against New Zealand on Thursday as the English weather struck again. With five points from three games India are only a few points short of the top at the time of writing, while Pakistan are only three points clear of Afghanistan at the bottom of the table after their four matches. While old rivalries will surface once again with bragging rights on the line, the focus should and will very much be on what two more points will do for either side this summer.

Match Winner

In this one Coral are going massively on an Indian win and, with the exploits of the two nations at the tournament so far, we don’t blame them. India’s victory over South Africa was a very comfortable one while they excelled with the bat first up against the Aussies. Pakistan meanwhile were blown away in their match-up with the West Indies before they found form with bat and ball to beat England and give themselves and their fans some real hope again. However, a no result with Sri Lanka preceded a tough loss to Australia as they collapsed from 136/2 to 266 all out. Clearly, there is scope for Pakistan to suffer a monumental collapse with the bat which is why we are so tentative to back them. The only other time in the tournament in which they have been massive underdogs came against England, and they dominated that game, while they will know that India’s batting lineup is not the longest, meaning that if they can take early wickets, their opponents might struggle. This is all in theory though with India’s apparently short batting lineup yet to be exposed at this tournament by two teams in South Africa and Australia that have strong bowling attacks. With this in mind, we think that India will taste victory again in England, with Pakistan too up and down to back in this sort of contest.

To Score A Fifty

We feel that when the batting clicks for India, they are one of the most fearsome lineups around, with all of their players incredibly tough to remove from the middle when they get going. One man that has been continually showing this on the big stage this summer is opener Rohit Sharma. Sharma is currently averaging 179.00 after two matches with his 179 runs coming from scores of 122 and 57. Clearly the opener is enjoying his time in England, while he is just continuing with his impressive form in 2019 which sees him averaging 52.50 in 15 innings. While Sharma may not be firing at the same pace as others at the World Cup, with his strike rate in the 80’s in both of his innings so far, he has not looked short of confidence or out of touch, and he has continually given India a solid base to build upon, and we feel he will do the same once again, with the opener in fine form this summer.
