Will Eoin Morgan's men back up their 4-0 thrashing of Pakistan with a win over Australia, or will the touring side go into the World Cup with a big mental advantage following a win over the hosts? Read on for our predictions and best bets for this match.

England vs Australia Predictions

England vs Australia Betting Tips

What a game we have in store on Saturday as the build-up to the 2019 Cricket World Cup is ramped up with a massive fixture between two of the oldest and fiercest rivalries in the game. England will be looking to continue an impressive run that has seen them win nine of their past nine matches in all formats of the game when excluding their single no result against Pakistan, while Australia are also defending an impressive run, with eight ODI wins in a row bringing them to this point and seeing the side somehow build upon what were very slim hopes of winning the tournament this summer.

England come into this one as big odds-on favourites at 8/13, while Australia offer a little more value at 13/10, but we do not think it is worth the risk on them considering the last time they ventured to these shores they were trounced 5-0 by and England side that proved they were far better than the tourists. Our tip for outright winner in this one is England, although we would not blame anyone for not backing the home side as the potential pay-off is small, while Eoin Morgan’s side do have a wobble in them if their top order does not fire. In this one we feel backing Bairstow to top score is the right way to go though. The opener offers more value than Root and we feel his more consistent than Roy, offering the ability to play it slightly slower and safer along with an array of big shots making him something of a middle-man between the pair.

In the top batsman market we do not fancy Joe Root at all as favourite at 11/4. Root has continually made starts and looked fluent, but his lack of big scores may not worry the England selectors (and so it shouldn’t as he is England’s most consistent player), but it does not bode too well for any backers of his, with Root seemingly the man that brings the innings together steadily with a score of around 40. Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy continue to impress at the top of the order and they will be out to fire England off to a great start once again. Bairstow currently goes at 3/1 with Roy slightly longer at 10/3, although we think captain Morgan (4’s) and vice-captain Jos Buttler (5’s) offer decent value considering they have the role in the innings of appearing fairly-high up the order and usually coming in to massively accelerate the run rate after a good start.

For the Aussies, David Warner is the man to back for most, and at 11/4 we can see why some will be tempted. The Indian Premier League was kind to Warner this season as he notched 692 runs at an average of 69.20 which saw him finish the competition as top scorer, 99 runs ahead of KL Rahul who also played two more innings than the Australian. All the signs are good that Warner returning to cricket will be seamless then. However, with Usman Khawaja and Aaron Finch also in the running and looking good in ODI cricket of late, we are tentative backing Warner outright in what will be a game in which Australia will likely try to cram all of their bating stars into one team. Instead, we feel backing the opener to notch a fifty is a safer bet as he managed to go past the half-century mark in nine of his 12 innings in the IPL this year making him much fancied to continue his high scoring run.
