Can England win the final Ashes Test and make it 2-2 in the series, or will Australia add a series win to their retention of the Ashes urn? Read on for our best bets for the final Test of the 2019 Ashes.

England vs Australia Predictions

England vs Australia Betting Tips

At long last, after four Tests in which Australia have been the better side, the travelling side have finally managed to ensure that England do not regain the Ashes and ended 18 years of hurt on English soil. Victory at Old Trafford was one that was easy to see coming as soon as Steve Smith raised his bat to celebrate his century, while he was just mocking England when he did it for the second time in that first innings. England rarely threatened to pull off a draw, let alone a win as the Aussies wrapped up retaining the urn with a consummate 251 run win over their arch-rivals, sparking jubilant celebration from the touring fans and players alike.

Now, England have the chance to scrape together some pride and win the final Test and ensure Australia do not leave with a series win, despite the fact they have already retained the much-coveted urn.

Match Winner and Steve Smith Innings 100

Two separate markets we know, but the two have been so intertwined this series that it is nearly impossible to make a decision on one without the other having a major impact on proceedings. Steve Smith has proved to be without question the best batsman on the planet and perhaps the best of the last two decades at least. An incredible average of 132.40 this series has come along with three centuries and two fifties, and we think this would likely have been five consecutive centuries if he had not suffered a concussion in the second Test while he was also playing for the team and not himself in the second innings of the fourth Test as he looked to go after England’s bowlers to accelerate Australia’s scoring, giving them more time to declare and bowl at their hosts. His 671 runs in five innings is almost double the next highest scorer (Ben Stokes with 354 runs) having played three less innings than the Headingley hero, which shows just how far ahead of everyone else he is. The comparisons to Don Bradman are about as high praise as any batsman can ever hope to be given, but if he keeps going in this sort of way then perhaps Smith will be the new benchmark of excellence for those players coming through in years to come.

There is very little anyone can do to convince us that Smith won’t top score in this Test considering England’s struggles when bowling to him and the fact that Marnus Labuschagne looks good but is yet to pass 100 while David Warner has been in woeful form. The top sAustralia scorer market currently has Smith at 11/10 so we are instead backing him to notch another 100, which offers more value at 7/4. Smith is surely due a low score at some point, but we don’t think it will be in this Test, so we are backing him to score big again and lead Australia to a third win and series victory over their hosts.
