Can Australia secure their fourth win of the World Cup, or will Shakib Al Hasan notch another century in a winning cause? Read on for our best bets for this World Cup game.

Australia vs Bangladesh Predictions

This is yet another game in which there is a lot on the line as an Australian side that are chasing top spot take on a Bangladesh outfit that are currently the most likely out of the teams outside of the top four to take a semi-final spot. The Aussies have been able to pick up four wins in five following victories over Afghanistan, West Indies, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with the eight points they have picked up seeing them firmly establish themselves as a top-four side going into their sixth game. However, their single loss of the tournament came in a comfortable defeat at the hands of India, with Virat Kohli’s men showing that Australia’s recent resurgence does not mean they will simply walk to the World Cup finals. Bangladesh meanwhile come into this one on the back of a huge win over the West Indies in every sense of the word. The Windies went in to bat first and notched 321/8 as they posed their opponents with a strong total to chase. In reply, Bangladesh enjoyed a good start before all rounder and potential player of the tournament Shakib Al Hasan smashed 124 not out off 99 to see the side home with seven wickets and 51 balls to spare. While it was hugely impressive to see Bangladesh chase down 322, what was even more impressive was the fact they still had over 50 deliveries left, meaning if they were batting first they would have been looking at in excess of 400 runs scored if they continued at that same pace. Victory over South Africa and a no result against Sri Lanka sees the side sitting on five points, and while they will be hopeful of challenging for a top-four spot, it should be noted that defeats to England and New Zealand shows that they are still short of the very best sides in the world.

Match Winner

The cricket romantic will say that this is the sort of game that could so easily go against the favourites, with Bangladesh on a high following a fantastic performance in their last game. However, this is Australia we are talking about, and they so rarely succumb to shock upsets, such is their cricketing pedigree. What is interesting about this fixture is the fact that many will look to back a Shakib Al Hasan led Bangladesh as their potential winner, but the side have won just once in 20 games against the Aussies, with one no result and 18 Aussie wins telling the story of just how one sided this encounter has been. With this in mind we have no choice but to back Australia, with the side too good for their opponents in recent years.

To Score A Fifty

Many punters will look to back David Warner, Steve Smith or Aaron Finch in this one, with the trio in fine form at the 2019 tournament. Indeed, their exploits have been so impressive that the three are all in the top seven for runs scoring as things stand. However, the player of the tournament with the bat so far has undoubtedly been Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan. Four innings have resulted in 384 runs at an average of 128.00, meaning he is 17 runs clear of Joe Root in second having played an innings less than his English counterpart. In his four innings Al Hasan boasts an unbelievable rate of fifties and centuries, with two fifties and two hundreds this summer seeing the player yet to fail to notch at least a half-century. His incredible consistency is something that is driving this Bangladesh team onwards and towards a potential semi0final spot. Of course, it should be noted that Australia have a very strong bowling lineup that will challenge Al Hasan, but he has already proven his batting ability against the likes of New Zealand and England, with the duo also boasting very strong bowling attacks.
