England vs Australia Day 3 Best Bet

England were bowled out for what may still prove to be an under-par score on the second day of the second Test as only Rory Burns and Jonny Bairstow, who both scored fifties, were able to really get some meaningful scores for their side. Despite losing David Warner early on, Australia will still feel they are in the ascendancy going into the third day, especially with Steve Smith still to take to the middle. The former-Australian captain was in supreme form in the first Test as he scored centuries in both innings, and he will fancy himself against the England bowlers, especially when considering the fact that the home side were more often than not guilty of giving their wickets away on the second day. With this in mind along with the fact Usman Khawaja and Cameron Bancroft will be in search of a big score, we are predicting a big score for the Aussies as they look to put England to the sword, with a score in excess of 300 something they will target as a must against an English side that does not look likely to make it to that point.

England vs Australia - 2nd Ashes Test at Lord's - Wednesday, August 14

While England were left light in the bowling department in the first Test after an injury to James Anderson, this will surely not happen again in the second, especially if Chris Woakes continues his fine run of form at Lord’s. If there is any place in the world to really perform, it is at the Home of Cricket, with the venue one that brings out the very best from the best, with Woakes falling into this category there. An incredible average of just 9.75 has seen 24 wickets with a best of 6/17, figures he snared the last time he was at Lord’s as he won the Test match against Ireland for his side. The injury to Anderson will be one that really opens the door for Woakes to partner Broad as the new ball bowler, although he will have to contest for wickets alongside Jofra Archer, who we predict to come into the side to add some real pace and aggression to England’s attack.

Steve Smith will likely provide another near-immoveable presence with the bat, but we feel the dual prospect of the swing of Woakes and the pace of Archer will give him real problems from Wednesday onwards. We feel if England can get Smith early then it will expose the obvious frailties in the Australian batting lineup, with the side heavily leaning on their ex-captain’s exploits in the first Test. With this in mind we feel Woakes will be the man to take advantage of the conditions and Australia’s weaknesses.
