2018 Cheltenham Festival odds. We look at the current ante-post betting for the 2018 Stayers' Hurdle, currently headed by defending champion, Nichols Canyon.

Nicholls Canyon was the third leg in Willie Mullins’ four-timer on the third day of the 2017 Cheltenham Festival, when he surprised odds-on favourite Unowhatimeanharry to land his first Grade 1 over a three mile distance. His initial race at the Festival looked to be the Champion Hurdle, but his poor form over two miles forced Willie’s hand and he made the switch at the start of the week. A decision which paid dividends on Thursday afternoon as he cruised through the first two-and-a-half miles of the race, overtaking Unowhatimeanharry after the last and tracking down the tenacious Lil Rockerfeller to land that massive title.

Following that victory, Nichols Canyon has taken his place at the head of the betting to retain his title in 2018 and can be found at a best price of 9/1 with Betway to retain his Stayers’ Hurdle title next season.

That defeat was the first Unowhatimeanharry had suffered in almost two years and it will have come as a bit of a shock to Harry Fry, as his nine-year-old had looked unbeatable throughout the season. He is likely to return in search of redemption and revenge in 2018 and he’s currently quoted by bet365 at a price of 12/1 to land the Stayers’ Hurdle title at the second time of asking.

Penhill was the excellent winner of the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle on the final day of the Festival and he can be found at a price of 14/1 with bet365 to repeat that winning feat in the 2018 Stayers’ Hurdle. Death Duty went to post as the strong favourite in the Albert Bartlett, but he was a faller when well beaten at the last. Gordon Elliott has plenty of faith in his youngster and he himself might be tempted by his current price of 14/1 with Betfair to win the Stayers’ Hurdle next season.

JLT champion, Willoughby Court is a 20/1 shot with SkyBet to step up to three miles and win again at the Cheltenham Festival, with Neon Wolf, who finished second to Willoughby Court, listed by Betfair at a price of 16/1 to win the 2018 Stayers’ Hurdle.

Lil Rockerfeller ran a storming race in second behind Nichols Canyon and he’s listed as a 25/1 shot to go one better in 2018 with Betfair, a price he is joined on by Cole Harden and Augusta Kate.

2018 Stayers’ Hurdle Odds (Best Price)

9/1 Nichols Canyon (Betway) 12/1 Unowhatimeanharry (bet365) 14/1 Penhill (bet365), Death Duty (Betfair) 16/1 Neon Wolf (Betfair) 20/1 Willoughby Court (SkyBet) 25/1 Bar
