Oleksandr Usyk v Tony Bellew Betting Tips Explained

Tony Bellew is returning to the cruiserweight division after successfully proving that his first win over former world heavyweight champion David Haye was no fluke, and the ‘Bomber’ is looking to bow out in sensational fashion by dethroning the man who this year proved he is the king of the cruiserweight division by winning the World Boxing Super Series.

Oleksandr Usyk put everything on the line when he entered the eight-man tournament, but he passed that challenge with flying colours as he lifted the Ali Trophy and walked away from the as the undisputed world champion back in July, and Bellew has made no secret of the fact that he has given himself the most dangerous test of his professional career by signing on to face the unbeaten Ukrainian in what will be the Liverpudlian's final bout before retirement..

“This is the ultimate test for me,” Bellew said when the fight was announced in September. “There is no greater test than Oleksandr Usyk – he is one of the most feared men in boxing. This is nothing new to me, everyone says that I can't do it again. Everybody is saying that I'll get beat-up quickly, but we'll find out won't we.

“I'm not in awe of Oleksandr Usyk. I won't stand and admire him and allow him to rattle off five-punch combinations on my head. He's meeting someone now who's just as quick as him, someone that's competed at a division lighter than him and someone that's come across fighters much more powerful than him.

“I'm going into this fight with absolutely nothing to lose because the whole world thinks I'm going to get smashed. I have everything to gain and nothing to lose. On November 10, I'm going to do something that nobody has ever done before, I'm going to knock out an undisputed cruiserweight champion of the world.”

But can Bellew really live up to his claim? The 35-year-old has looked more at home in the cruiserweight and heavyweight ranks than he did at light-heavyweight, and the last few years of his career have been something of a ‘Rocky’ story as he has repeatedly defied his critics to become a world champion in the cruiserweight division before stepping up to the heavyweight ranks and twice beating ex-champion Haye.

Many feel this meeting with the current cruiserweight kingpin will be a step too far for him though, and that is no real surprise when you look at his opponent. Usyk is a classy boxer with excellent fight IQ, quick feet, a good jab and fast hands. He picks apart his opponents for however long it takes and if Bellew allows this to be a boxing match then he will stand very little chance of dethroning the champion. That is not to say that Bellew is a poor boxer – he is somewhat underrated in that department – but he is not on the champion’s level and to have any chance he needs to produce the perfect performance.

However, Usyk has dispatched everyone that has stood in front of him since turning professional and he showed his quality by winning the World Boxing Super Series despite a stacked line-up for the cruiserweight tournament. He is simply the finest fighter on the planet in this weight class and I expect him to out-point Bellew, get the nod from the judges and leave just has he arrived – as the number one fighter in this division and one of the top pound-for-pound boxers on the planet.
