Fury v Wilder 2 set for ‘second quarter’ of 2019; Fury odds on to win rematch

Tyson Fury is the odds-on favourite to win a rematch with world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, after promoter Frank Warren revealed it is likely to take place in the United States during the ‘second quarter’ of the year.

Fury was controversially denied a second reign as world heavyweight champion when he challenged Wilder back in December, with the judges somehow declaring the bout a split decision draw despite the challenger dominating much of the contest.

There were immediate calls for a rematch though, and Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, has claimed the two men will meet for the WBC heavyweight title later this year, with the bout set to take place on US soil before the end of June.

“We're trying to make that fight at the moment,” Warren told ESPN. “Everyone wants the fight and most importantly the fighters want it.

“The venue is looking like the US, that's where the money is. Tyson was disappointed with the judging with the last fight, as I was, so a lot of things need to be sorted but the US is where they want it, probably in the second quarter.

“Vegas would be one of the options. I wouldn't want to go back to California, I didn't like working with the Californian commission and there were a lot of things we didn't like there.

“Tyson is already in the gym working hard, ticking over, and I think we would get it [the fight versus Wilder] before June.”

So will Fury take his second chance to dethrone Wilder if the two men meet this year?

Fury outclassed the champion for almost 12 full rounds when they met last December, and although he was forced to overcome a couple of knockdowns the bookmakers do believe the British fighter will get the better of the champion at the second time of asking.

Fury is currently the 4/6 favourite at Ladbrokes, with WBC champion Wilder considered a 5/4 underdog. A second draw between the two men is available at 18/1.
