Post fight interview

Mayweather admits that Conor was a much tougher opponent than he had expected, but said that he was the better man and that he followed his game plan and wore him down by avoiding his attacks and counterbox.

The undefeated champion expressed his fullest respect for the Irishman and the fight he put up tonight.
05:57 27 Aug

Round 10

The referee stops the fight when Conor takes too much of a beating, pushed up against the ropes.

Mayweather is still undefeated!
05:55 27 Aug

Round 9

Mayweather is punishing McGregor more and more, and it's painfully obvious that one is a professional boxer and the other one isn't.
05:43 27 Aug

Round 8

Still impossible for McGregor to really shake Mayweather that moves with perfect balance and follows what seems to be his game plan: wear McGregor out and finish him off when he's gassing.
05:39 27 Aug

Round 7

McGregor clinching UFC style, risking a warning for rule violation.

Mayweather as impossible to hold down as a drop of mercury. Over and over McGregor seems to be going for back control and takedowns, while Mayweather is landing more and more head punches.
05:37 27 Aug

Round 6

Experience is taking out it's right and this round clearly goes to Mayweather.
05:31 27 Aug

Round 5

More and more frustration building up within Conor, while Mayweather lands heavy body shots and avoids all dangerous attacks.
05:27 27 Aug

Round 4

Mayweather is defending effortlessly and starts to punish Conor with several good hits.

McGregor seems to lack the punching force we are used to see from him in the Octagon. The difference in stances and fighting rules becomes more and more obvious.
05:25 27 Aug

Round 3

Highlight of the round: McGregor goes into UFC mode and almost grabs Mayweather by the waist for a take down.
05:19 27 Aug

Round 2

Boxing defensevily as always, Mayweather is mostly avoiding the attacks of McGregor and reading his pattern.

Both fighters looks very well rested in their corners afterwards.
05:16 27 Aug

Round 1

Both boxers start off cautiously, feeling each other out for the full round.

One nice left uppercut landed by McGregor.

And for all of you that haven't got PPV to follow the fight, thank your lucky star that we are commenting everything for you.

To no one's surprise, McGregor have finally taken off his blue suit and sports white boxingshorts, white gloves and shoes instead.

To everyone's surprise, Mayweather enters with a ninja mask covering his face. Dressed in black trunks, he unveils his face long before Conor takes the Irish flag off his shoulders.

And the fight is on ...

Don King's thoughts on novice boxers vs undefeated legends

Mayweather has a perfect record won and is an undefeated legend.

McGregor has never boxed professionally before this night.

But somehow the incredibly talented MMA-fighter seems to think that one combat sport is pretty much the same as the other.

We all know what this well-combed promoter once said:

"The chances of a complete novice boxer beating a hall of famer are slim and none and slim's out of town."

- Don King

Punters all over the world seems to disagree, and the moment of truth is just a couple of hours away.

"Talking doesn't win fights"

After what seems like an eternity of trashtalking between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor, it's finally time for the real showdown. And "Money" delivered a very brief Tweet about the difference between press conferences and actual boxing:

A barrage of Mayweather vs McGregor betting expected

UK BOOKMAKERS will take 7 bets PER SECOND on the Floyd Mayweather v Conor McGregor fight between now and the first bell, according to Ladbrokes.

The blockbuster bout is comfortably the biggest betting event the sport has ever seen, with McGregor heading into the ring five times more popular than the 1/4 favourite, Mayweather.

'Notorious' has come in from 12/1 when the fight was first announced to just 7/2 today, while 'Money' has drifted from 1/7 to 1/4.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "When this fight was first confirmed, there was only one way we could see it going. But punters have got behind McGregor in their millions and they clearly believe he has a real chance of winning in his professional boxing debut."

Floyd Mayweather showed off his "true colours" on Friday by sporting a pair of lucky pants provided by Paddy Power ahead of tonight's mega-fight with Conor McGregor

The custom-made pants, revealed as he weighed in for the money-spinning Vegas clash, cost almost £3,000, and were designed by Mayweather himself – including the line ‘always bet on black’ stitched on.

The Paddy Power lucky pants were first made famous when footballer Nicklas Bendtner revealed a pair after scoring at Euro 2012 for Denmark.

It was the American’s final pre-fight jab at Irish rival Conor McGregor, whose compatriots Paddy Power surprisingly teamed up with Mayweather to hijack the weigh-in ahead of a fight they say will attract more than £200million in bets.

The bookmaker have taken FOUR times as many bets on McGregor than Mayweather in the last 24 hours, and say that more than 80% of bets overall have been for the Irishman.

That includes one bettor who staked £650,000 on a McGregor victory at 10/3 – which would return winnings of more than £2.8million.

Such is the interest in the bout, it is easily Paddy Power’s biggest boxing betting market of all time, and their biggest sporting event of the year.

But the bookie is confident – on Wednesday, they paid out early on a Floyd Mayweather victory, including one punter who received more than £50,000 in winnings.

Even Mayweather himself noted the pay-out, posting a celebratory video on his social channels – never one to miss a chance to goad his opponent.

Ken Robertson, Director of Advertising for Paddy Power, said: “Floyd showed his undies-card, and a certain Mr Power was on the bill. We’ve put the Money where our mouth is, and he’s put us where…well, you get the picture.
02:25 26 Aug

Which side are you on in the fight of the century?

With just over 25 hours left until the official starting time of what many consider the fight of the century, money is pouring on on both camps.

Mayweather, unbeaten professional boxer and one of the greatest fighters of our time, have been the favourite from day one. But McGregor, the charismatic and multi weight class champion in the UFC, have been backed by so many fans that the money line have shifted clearly in the direction away from "Money" Mayweather.

You will literally find scores of boosted odds specials from the bookmakers, one of the more remarkable one being 100/1 on McGregor to win the fight, offered by BetVictor.

But at the end of the day, it all comes down to each punter's individual decision, so how will you bet?

Mayweather claims 'Even Irish Backing Him' to beat Conor McGregor

Floyd Mayweather has disputed Paddy Power's claims that Conor McGregor has all of the support ahead of Saturday's fight and says that "even the Irish are backing him" to beat their man.

10:36 25 Aug

Paddy Power take £650,000 bet on Conor McGregor - 80% of all bets laid are on Irishman beating Mayweather

Paddy Power have offered an insight into the staggering popularity of the Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor bout, dubbing it the ‘€220million fight’.

That’s the amount they expect the British and Irish bookmaking industry alone to take on the fight.

Such is the interest in the bout, it is easily Paddy Power’s biggest boxing betting market of all time, and their biggest sporting event of the year.

More than 80% of the bets taken by the Irish bookie have been by punters backing McGregor.

One bettor staked £650,000 on a McGregor victory at 10/3 – which would return winnings of more than £2.8million.

And that’s not the only reason Paddy Power fear their compatriot – a fourth round stoppage, as McGregor predicted, would cost them more than €12million.

But the bookie is confident – on Wednesday, they paid out early on a Floyd Mayweather victory, including one punter who received more than €50,000 in winnings.

Even Mayweather himself noted the pay-out, posting a celebratory video on his social channels – never one to miss a chance to goad his opponent.

Spokesman Paddy Power told Bettingpro:

“There’s no doubt about it, this is the biggest fight in history – at least in terms of betting.

“From our perspective, despite always wanting the Irishman to do well in major sporting events, we think a Mayweather victory is inevitable, and paid out – because we checked, and only one of them is a boxer.”

Meanwhile, Paddy Power have crunched the numbers to find out which is the most loyal county in Ireland when it comes to backing the Crumlin brawler. Northern counties Tyrone and Armagh lead the way with the bookmaker yet to take a single bet online from residents in either counties.

Elsewhere, Dublin's Northsiders lead the way in supporting the city's favourite son with 85.77% of all bets placed online by punters north of the Liffey backing him to win compared to 83.45% of the south side.

Conor McGregor could cause £250m KO for bookies

With just five days to go until potentially the biggest boxing match of all time, the bookmakers are fearful of a Conor McGregor win against Floyd Mayweather.

A win for the Irishman could see bookies around the world pay out up to £250million, according to William Hill.

“We are fearing a McGregor win because people are backing him like he can’t lose,” William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly told Bettingpro.com.

“Around the world bookmakers are looking at taking around £100m, which will far surpass the turnover of any fight before, but the book is so one-sided that should McGregor win, the industry will end up handing over £250m to punters who have backed him.”

McGregor’s odds have tumbled since the book first opened and he is 3/1 (from 11/2) to win while Mayweather is 1/4 (from 1/10).

Bookies facing monster pay-out if McGregor beats Mayweather

With just seven days to go until Floyd Mayweather v Conor McGregor, the bookies are fearing an upset.

Since betting opened on the fight, McGregor’s odds have tumbled from 11/2 to 3/1 at William Hill and a victory for the Irishman will see pay-outs to punters in the millions of pounds.

“It is absolutely bonkers,” William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly told Bettingpro.com.

“Arguably the best boxer of all time is largely friendless in this fight against someone who has never stepped foot into a ring as a professional.

“Everything logical says that Mayweather should win this, but we are definitely nervous about an upset.”

Bookmakers around the world are expecting to take over £100million worth of wagers for what is likely to be the biggest betting bout of all time.

Mayweather’s odds of winning are 1/4 from an original 1/10, while it is 20/1 that McGregor fails to land a punch.

Conor McGregor victory a multi-million pound nightmare for bet365

Bookmaker bet365 face their biggest ever sports betting pay-out if Conor McGregor beats Floyd Mayweather on August 26, a spokesperson for the firm has revealed.

“We lost over £1million when outsiders Tony Bellew and Tyson Fury beat David Haye and Wladimir Klitschko respectively, but we’re already well past those figures with a week to go until the bout in Las Vegas,” bet365’s Steve Freeth told Bettingpro.com.

“McGregor is no longer the 9/1 long-shot he was when we opened the market with an early victory for the Irishman already touching liabilities of several million pounds.”

William Hill go 250/1 about Double KO in Mayweather v McGregor

Another day and another conspiracy theory in the build-up to Floyd Mayweather v Conor McGregor!

Bookmaker William Hill is now offering 250/1 that both fighters are knocked out simultaneously.

Meanwhile, Mayweather is the favourite at 2/9 but McGregor is by far the best backed and he is currently offered at 7/2.

In fact, it is 2/5 that the fight does not go the distance and Hills offer 20/1 that Conor fails to land a punch.

“Commentators are almost to a man backing Mayweather,” William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams told Bettingpro.com.

“But our customers from across the world disagree and we have million pound liabilities on Conor in the UK, the United States and Australia.”

Mayweather backer breaks bookies' computer system with massive $880,000 bet

One Las Vegas fight fan has placed a massive bet on Floyd Mayweather to beat Conor McGregor on August 26, and the bet was so big the bookmakers’ computer system could not handle it!

The unnamed punter wanted to place an $880,000 bet on the unbeaten boxing star to beat the UFC lightweight champion later this month, but South Point Casino’s system does not permit pay-outs of greater than $1million and the winner of this bet would have seen a return of $1.04million.

That led to an error in the original betting slip, with the winnings being calculated incorrectly at $120,000, but the sportsbook later rewrote the $880,000 punt as two bets of $440,000 to get around the pay-out limit.

“I’m glad we got it,” South Point Casino’s sportsbook director Chris Andrews told ESPN.

This $880,000 gamble is believe to be the biggest bet placed on the August 26 super-fight and if Mayweather – the 1/5 favourite – is victorious, the unnamed South Point Casino customer will make a profit of $160,000.

Bookies cut Conor McGregor’s odds once again as punters continue to back the Irishman

William Hill has once again been forced to take evasive action and cut the price of Conor McGregor beating Floyd Mayweather on August 26.

Just over 80% of all bets have been for the Irishman in a fight that William Hill alone expect to turnover £10million, and as a result McGregor is now into 7/2 – from 4/1 – to become the first man to beat Mayweather in a professional boxing ring.

“It is one way traffic for Conor McGregor, who is definitely winning the war of words as we get closer to the fight,” William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams told Bettingpro.com.

“If McGregor wins it will almost certainly be the worst result we have ever had, even surpassing Frankie Dettori’s ‘Magnificent Seven’ victory in 1996.”

Conor McGregor has stated that he will win inside four rounds and punters have latched on to the fourth round as his point of victory, which is now 22/1 from 33/1.

McGregor 10x more popular than Mayweather with Ladbrokes punters

Conor McGregor’s odds are continuing to fall thanks to a huge level of support from the British public, according to bookmaker Ladbrokes.

Having once been as long as 6/1 to defeat Floyd Mayweather in his first professional boxing match, ‘The Notorious’ has since seen his odds tumble to just 7/2.

And the bookies can reveal that McGregor is 10x more popular with punters than his opponent in terms of bets placed so far, despite his opponent being the clear 1/5 favourite.

“Our traders have been confident of a Mayweather victory since we first opened the book on this bout,” Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati told Bettingpro.com.

“But the latest update suggests the British public are anticipating a completely different outcome.”

Paulie Malignaggi walks out on Conor McGregor training camp

Former world champion Paulie Malignaggi has quit as a sparring partner for Conor McGregor after claiming he was being “exploited” by the Irishman’s team.

The former two-weight world champion was clearly angered by a couple of photographs that were tweeted by photographer Dave Fogarty, one of which showed him on his back in the ring during sparring with the caption: “There no conspiracy, there no photoshop just pure unadulterated power”.

In a series of tweets Malignaggi challenged the UFC to release the full video footage of the two sparring sessions and accused McGregor's team of 'painting a picture that isn't true'...

Malignaggi later issued an official statement confirming his departure from the camp, insisting he and McGregor shared a “mutual respect inside the ring, earned from each other with some good work over 2 sparring sessions” before adding that “some of the stuff outside the ring and some ways some things were handled in training camp” led to his decision.

Mike Tyson: McGregor will "get killed" boxing Mayweather

According to former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, Conor McGregor has little to no chance of beating Floyd Mayweather... and little has just left town!

“McGregor is going to get killed boxing,” Tyson told Barstool Sports’ Pardon My Take.

“I got mad because I thought they were going to use MMA rules against boxing because that’s what it’s all about: Can the boxer beat the MMA guy?

“McGregor put his dumbass in a position where he’s going to get knocked out because this guy’s been doing this all his life since he was a baby. McGregor can’t kick and grab and stuff, so he won’t stand much of a chance.”

Paulie Malignaggi: There is 'method behind Conor McGregor's madness'

Former two-weight world champion Paulie Malignaggi once claimed he would "knock the beard off" Conor McGregor - but what has he said after sparring with the UFC lightweight champion?

Malignaggi joined McGregor's camp as a sparring partner this week and went eight rounds with the Irishman, who is preparing to take on unbeaten boxing star Floyd Mayweather on August 26.

"He’s got a game plan behind it," Malignaggi told ESPN's Brett Okamoto. "It’s not what people think. There’s a game plan behind what he’s doing. There’s a method to Conor’s madness.

"In a championship camp, the sparring is intense, so I didn’t expect to go in there and it be a picnic. He’s a competitor, I’m a competitor. We went in there and there was a lot of trash talking right away. There was a lot of fighting right away. In the end, you look back on it was kind of fun. I don’t have everybody that can match my trash talking, but Conor definitely can. So it was making it a lot of fun.

"Without giving away too much, he’s effective at what he’s doing. There’s a method behind the madness."

Conor McGregor’s camp rubbish sparring KO claims

Conor McGregor’s camp have rubbished claims that the Irishman was knocked out during sparring ahead of his August 26 super-fight against Floyd Mayweather.

Last weekend former two-weight world champion Jessie Vargas told Villainfy Media that he was looking to put some money on a Mayweather victory after hearing McGregor had been dropped during sparring, but according to McGregor’s team there is no truth in those claims.

“The guy mentioned by Jessie Vargas is Brandon Rios, not Brad Wheeler,” a member of the Irishman’s team told The Telegraph. “Neither have sparred with Conor.”

Rios himself has also shot down the rumours, telling ES News that “the world’s gone crazy”.

“Vargas is f*****g about,” he said. “I never met [McGregor]. I know nothing about him, but I’d like to spar him.”

Conor McGregor knocked out in sparring, claims former world champion

Former WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas is sticking his money on Floyd Mayweather to stop Conor McGregor after claiming the UFC star has been knocked out in sparring ahead of the big fight.

UFC lightweight champion McGregor is seen as a huge underdog as he attempts to become the first man to ever beat Mayweather in a professional boxing match, and his chances of springing an upset will have lessened considerably if Vargas’ sparring comments are true.

"I heard that they tried Bradley Wheeler but he knocked him out," Vargas told Villainfy Media. "I’m looking forward to Floyd coming out with a victory by knockout in six, seven rounds. I have no doubt. I actually want to put some money on it. It’s a 99 per cent win."

If you fancy Mayweather to win by KO/TKO you can get 4/6 on it at bet365, while a sixth-round stoppage and a seventh-round stoppage are each priced at 11/1.

The first press conference for Floyd Mayweather v Conor McGregor took place in Los Angeles on Tuesday night, and ‘Mystic Mac’ returned to predict an early knockout success on August 26.

“I'm just enjoying myself. That's it. He will be unconscious in four rounds. He's never experienced someone like me. I don't fear him.

“This is a limited set of rules that makes this half a fight, a quarter of a fight. If this was a true fight, it wouldn't even take one round.”

Malignaggi: McGregor-Mayweather like putting ping-pong champion against Andy Murray

Paulie Malignaggi is in talks to become a sparring partner of Conor McGregor’s in the build-up to the August 26 super-fight with Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas, but the former world boxing champion is giving the Irishman little hope of becoming the first man to beat ‘Money’.

“It's like putting a ping-pong champion on the Wimbledon court with Andy Murray,” he told Sky Sports. “What do you think the ping-pong champion's chances are? I'm not sure it would be very great.

“Conor is the underdog and I believe that he's up against it in this fight. You're looking for key elements, you're fighting a 40-year-old man who hasn't fought in two years. That in itself could cause a bit of a problem for Floyd.

“If Conor can achieve certain moments in the fight where he gets Floyd's attention, winning points or even an entire round, even if at the end he loses I think people will look at Conor in a positive light. If you're looking at a situation where Conor is going to win the fight, it's probably stretching it a little bit.”

The bookmakers certainly share Malignaggi’s belief with bet365 making Mayweather the 1/6 favourite and McGregor a 4/1 underdog.

Tyson Fury: McGregor to KO Mayweather in 35 seconds

Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has predicted a spectacular quick-fire knockout victory for Conor McGregor on August 26.

Few are giving McGregor much chance against unbeaten Floyd Mayweather, but Fury has insisted the UFC star could make light work of ‘Money’ in the same way he destroyed Jose Aldo to win the UFC featherweight title.

“I think Conor McGregor will knock him out in the first 35 seconds like he did to Jose Aldo, to be honest,” Fury told iFL TV. “It would be great for the real people of the world.”

If you agree with Fury, you can get 6/1 on McGregor to win by KO/TKO or 50/1 about the Irishman winning in Round 1 at Ladbrokes.

Dana White: Odds-makers not writing off Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor may have been written off by fight fans and pundits across the globe, but UFC president Dana White has done a little study into previous fight odds to reveal the Irishman is not being counted out by the Vegas odds-makers.

“People are talking all this s**t that Conor McGregor doesn't have a chance against Floyd Mayweather,” White wrote on Facebook.

“Well the odds-makers think he does. Look at the odds for Conor versus other great boxers [that have faced Mayweather]. If you don't think Conor can win... put the farm on Floyd and see how that works out for you‬.”

92% of Paddy Power punters backing McGregor to beat Mayweather

Ahead of the historic bout on August 26, Paddy Power can report extraordinary levels of support for Conor McGregor from its punters.

The Dubliner has to date attracted 91.9% of all bets placed on the box office clash with the undefeated Mayweather only accounting for 8.1% of wagers despite being the overwhelming favourite.

UFC lightweight champion has also attracted far more money than his illustrious opponent with the bets placed on McGregor accounting for 63.2% of all cash wagered on the bout.

The one-sided nature of the betting has seen the Irishman’s odds fall faster than some of his previous opponents, with his initial odds of 13/2 collapsing to 4/1, while Mayweather remains the firm favourite but has seen his odds drift over the same time period from 1/14 to 1/6.

Meanwhile, the biggest single bet placed on the UFC man is £1,861 at 11/2 which will return €12,096.50 should he win. The biggest bet on the American is £5,000 at 1/6.

“Nothing is predictable when it comes to McGregor and we didn’t foresee this level of support for him when we first set up the market,” Paddy Power spokesperson Féilim Mac An Iomaire told Bettingpro.com.

“Normally, you would expect a heavy favourite such as Mayweather to attract the majority of the money through large wagers at short odds but this hasn’t been the case.

“Given the nature of the betting we’d be left more battered and bruised than any of the Dubliner’s previous opponents should he upset the odds in August.”

Oscar De La Hoya rants about Floyd Mayweather v Conor McGregor

Sour grapes? Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya has let rip about the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor fight which takes place just weeks before his company’s super-fight, Saul Alvarez v Gennady Golovkin.

“It’s one of those boxing matches that’s gonna be irrelevant to our major fight, and real fight, that we have against two real boxers on September 16,” De La Hoya told BT Sport.

“First of all, how did the commission ever sanction such a fight? And how can a fighter who has zero experience in boxing go against the very best, and pretend that maybe he can win? It’s almost unheard of.

“Look, Floyd Mayweather is one of the best boxers in our generation, and for McGregor to think that he can out-box Mayweather is a little delusional. It’s speaking the truth, but hey, may they have a good fight, and then we can move on to focus on our real fight on September 16.”

Conor McGregor sparring partner claims Floyd Mayweather will “destroy” Irishman

Conor McGregor does not stand a chance against Floyd Mayweather, according to sparring partner Chris van Heerden.

Former IBO welterweight van Heerden sparred with McGregor in the past and despite being “out of shape” after coming off a holiday, the 30-year-old South African was able to ‘light up’ the UFC lightweight champion.

“It’s crazy that I read all these posts where people say Mayweather’s going to have his hands full landing on Conor because of Conor’s skill and footwork and movement,” he told TMZ.

“I’m no Mayweather and out-of-camp and out-of-shape I landed on Conor at will. It is crazy to think that people can actually compare a fighter that’s 0-0 in a boxing ring to a legend that’s 49-0... that if you go on his resume has beaten the best in the world.”

Mayweather is 8/11 to beat McGregor by KO/TKO at William Hill.

Conor McGregor's boxing coach predicts KO success against Floyd Mayweather

Conor McGregor's boxing coach Owen Roddy has told The MMA Hour's Ariel Helwani that he has "no doubt" that the Irishman will knock out Floyd Mayweather on August 26.

UFC lightweight champion McGregor has never had a professional boxing bout in his combat sports career and is taking on a man with a perfect 49-0 record when it comes to the 'sweet science' - but Roddy has insisted the Irishman could silence his doubters once again.

McGregor to win by KO/TKO is currently 11/2 at bet365.

Lennox Lewis expects Floyd Mayweather to stop Conor McGregor

Former world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis is confident Floyd Mayweather will stop Conor McGregor inside 12 rounds when the two men meet in the hugely-anticipated super-fight on August 26.

Mayweather retired in September 2015 with a perfect 49-0 record but has been tempted out of exile by the millions and millions of dollars on offer to face McGregor, the biggest star in mixed martial arts.

McGregor became the first man to hold UFC titles in two difference weight classes last year, but Lewis believes he stands no chance against Mayweather, who many consider the best in-ring technician of the modern era.

“I can't take it serious,” Lewis told ESPN when asked about the fight. “Mayweather is the best in his weight class, no one can touch him in boxing. He's a pugilist of the highest order so for another man from a different sport to fight him?

“It's ridiculous to me. You are talking about one discipline where you can use only your hands and only a few can do it. Every battle sport always starts with your hands, but they are two totally different sports.

“Floyd will stop him. He's just too good at boxing for McGregor and McGregor is just too inexperienced. I wouldn't buy it -- but I would be interested in the result. To me, I know who is going to win already so there's no use in watching it.”

bet365 reveal that McGregor is being backed against Mayweather

The bout between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor has been confirmed for August 26th and bet365 have been knocked over for interest in the
Irishman in what could be the busiest fight of all time.

bet365’s Steve Freeth “Our opening show for a McGregor victory was 9/1 but since the fight was confirmed on Wednesday it’s been one-way traffic for the underdog and he’s already down to 4/1.

“The experts are telling us he won’t lay a glove on Mayweather yet the punters are all over McGregor like a rash, and, if they’re right, we’ll be looking at a monster payout.”

“Joshua versus Klitschko was a heavyweight spectacle in quality and turnover, but if interest continues at this rate it will blow that Wembley spectacular out of the water,” added Freeth.

After the announcement of what looks set to be the biggest fight in history (4/6 with William Hill to break the 4.4m PPV sales record), the majority of punters are thinking that Connor McGregor may actually have more than a puncher’s chance in this one.

Hills can report that on the day of the announcement, McGregor’s price of winning came in from 6/1 to 9/2 to win which is half of the 9/1 that he was in December of last year.

“We took nearly 20 bets on McGregor yesterday for every one we took on Mayweather and if the money keeps going the way it is, we could be in the bizarre situation of having McGregor favourite by the time the fight takes place, even though Floyd should realistically be a very short price to win,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

Floyd Mayweather is in from 1/12 to 1/7 to win the bout with the draw offered at 40/1.

Bout betting: 1/7 Floyd Mayweather Jr; 9/2 Conor McGregor; 40/1 draw

Will the Mayweather/McGregor fight break the 4.4m PPV sales record: 4/6 yes; 11/10 no

Will either fighter be disqualified: 7/1

Points win for Mayweather & early KO victory for McGregor proving popular

Floyd Mayweather v Conor McGregor was finally confirmed on Wednesday night and bookmaker William Hill has revealed a decision win for the boxer and a quick-fire KO victory for the MMA fighter are proving popular options with punters.

Mayweather is the 1/12 favourite to win the fight and is 10/11 to win by knockout, but a decision victory at 5/4 has seen support since the fight was announced.

McGregor is a 6/1 underdog with many feeling his best chance to win the fight will come early, and at 40/1 a first-round knockout victory has been a popular pick with those calling an upset.

“As is stands we are seeing money for Mayweather to win on points and McGregor to win in the first at 40/1,” William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams told Bettingpro.com. “Personally I think the disqualification price looks big at 7/1.”

William Hill is also offering 4/11 that the pay-per-view record of 4.4 million will be beaten by what bookmakers believe will be the biggest fight in history.

Mayweather v McGregor 4/7 to smash PPV record

All good things come to those who wait and after almost two years of trash talk Floyd Mayweather v Conor McGregor is on.

The light-middleweight boxing match will take place in Las Vegas on the August 26 and could earn each fighter up to $100m – making it the richest boxing event in history.

Conveniently, that two years of trash talk has given those folk at Paddy Power plenty of time to price up some betting specials, and the bookie is already tipping the fight to set a new Pay-Per-View buys record. Paddy goes odds-on 4/7 for the bout to smash the current record of 4.4m PPV buys - also held by Mayweather for his fight against Manny Pacquaio in 2015.

Tickets for the fight will be hotter than the Nevada desert, and the bookie goes 6/5 that prices will hit $100,000 or more.

But despite all the hype, pundits are dubbing the mega-fight a ‘circus’ – and an expensive one at that. It will be McGregor’s first professional boxing match, while 40 year-old Mayweather is coming out of retirement for the fight. Mayweather is heavy favourite to win the bout (1/8), with McGregor’s odds currently at 5/1.

Yet there’s no doubt McGregor deserves credit for convincing Mayweather to put his 49-unbeaten record on the line, and Paddy is already speculating on who could be next for the Irishman – including Hulk Hogan at 500/1.

You can even bet on which fighter will swear first at the press conference, with Paddy favouring McGregor at odds of 1/3.

“After two years of trash talk it’s great news that the pair have managed to agree on a deal, and we’re expecting this one to break all sorts of records,” a Paddy Power spokesperson told Bettingpro.com.

“OK, so the fight is going to land them millions, it could well be all over in under a minute, and we’ll all have to stay up to ridiculous o’clock and pay way over the odds for PPV – but we’re still going to watch it.”

Bookies predict Mayweather v McGregor will smash boxing betting records

Bookmaker Ladbrokes is expecting the recently confirmed fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor to break boxing betting records.

Mayweather's 2015 bout with Manny Pacquiao remains the biggest night in boxing the industry has ever seen in terms of amounts staked (roughly £25million), but the bookies reckon even more will be taken when ‘Money’ and ‘The Notorious’ step into the ring.

Both fighters announced last night via social media that the bout will go ahead on August 26, and Ladbrokes has since said they have already seen enough activity in the market to suggest this will comfortably be the biggest fight in betting history.

“The £20million we took as an industry in the build-up to the AJ v Klitschko fight came dangerously close to smashing records,” Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati told Bettingpro.com.

“But we're forecasting double the amount of that figure to be staked by the time these two blockbuster names come to blows.”
