The bookmakers do not appear to have much faith in Tony Bellew dethroning undisputed cruiserweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday night, but that has not stopped customers from getting firmly behind the challenger.

Bellew has moved back down to cruiserweight after winning a couple of high-profile domestic scraps with David Haye, and he has set his sights on becoming a world champion in the division for a second time before he hangs up his gloves.

The 35-year-old Liverpudlian faces a gigantic challenge in achieving that though, because to become world champion again he will have to dethrone the undisputed king of the cruiserweights, a man who has spent the last couple of years collecting world titles on his way to winning the World Boxing Super Series.

Oleksandr Usyk has never tasted defeat inside a professional boxing ring and despite Bellew’s previous world title success in this division, and his victories over former world heavyweight champion Haye, the bookmakers are not expecting to him to put a blemish on the Ukrainian’s record on Saturday night.

Usyk is currently a 1/6 favourite in the Winner market at Ladbrokes, with a stoppage success priced at 4/5 and a decision win at 7/4, but it appears as though punters are not buying into the champion because only 6% of bets have been for him to win.

We revealed earlier today that William Hill customers have been getting behind Bellew in their numbers, but it appears as though their Ladbrokes counterparts are even more confident about the challenger leaving Manchester as the undisputed cruiserweight world champion.

85% of bets on the fight have been for Bellew to defy his 4/1 underdog status and win the world title bout, with the bookies going 6/1 that he gets the job done inside 12 rounds and 12/1 that he gets the backing of the judges after going the distance with the Ukrainian.

“People wrote Bellew off – twice – against David Haye,” Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati told Bettingpro.com. “But the latest figures suggest punters are finally giving Bomber the respect he deserves – even if our traders think he’ll struggle.”
