Amir Khan v Phil Lo Greco predictions, betting tips & fight preview: 5 reasons to back Khan to win in Rounds 7-9

Leigh Copson 16 Apr 2018

Amir Khan ends a two-year spell on the sidelines when he faces Phil Lo Greco on Saturday, April 21, and we have picked out five reasons why you should back the former world champion to make a winning return by stopping ‘The Italian Sensation’ in Rounds 7-9.

5 Reasons Why You Should Back Khan To Win In Rounds 7-9

  1. Let’s get this out of the way quickly – this is a hand-picked fight to help Amir Khan shake off the rust after almost two years on the sidelines. There was no way promoter Eddie Hearn was going to book a challenging opponent as he looks to set up a big domestic showdown between long-time rivals Khan and Kell Brook – who are both signed to Matchroom Boxing. Khan should win comfortably and the odds in the ‘Winner’ market back up that belief.
  2. We all know Khan’s weakness – one powerful shot is all it takes to have the Bolton fighter reeling. But to be fair to the Bolton fighter, his ‘glass jaw’ has not prevented him from beating some top-level operators over the years. Khan has beaten the likes of Marco Maidana, Devon Alexander, Luis Collazo and Zab Judah while compiling a 31-4 record, and Lo Greco is not in their league.
  3. Lo Greco did manage to go the distance in a losing effort against Shawn Porter in May 2013, but he was blown out in three rounds when he faced Errol Spence Jr almost three years ago and he will struggle to cope with Khan’s lightning quick hand-speed in Liverpool. Khan should wear down ‘The Italian Sensation’ before finishing him off for his first KO/TKO win since July 2011.
  4. This is unlikely to be a quickfire knockout – only two of Khan’s last nine victories have come via stoppages in the first half of the fight, and while Lo Greco was taken out quickly by the ultra-talented Spence Jr in June 2015, it is the only time he has been stopped in his professional career. Khan is going to have to put the work in for several rounds if he is to stop Lo Greco at the Echo Arena.
  5. The Round Group Betting market is available to all customers and that means if this bet is a winner you will be paid out in cash. The bookmakers are largely convinced about how this fight will go down and that severely limits our options for this fight, but backing Khan to win in Rounds 7-9 does offer a decent return, with a £20 stake leading to a return of £80 if Khan delivers.
