A Manchester City fan put a bet on Wayne Rooney moving to Everton seven years ago at odds of 100/1. He lost his betting slip but was able to collect his £2,000 winnings after having his handwriting analysed in his local Betfred shop.

Jordon Fawcett put a £20 bet on Wayne Rooney joining Everton at 100/1 to wind up his Manchester United supporting mates and didn't think any more of it. Seven years later and Rooney rejoined Everton but Jordon had lost the betting slip.

Father-of-two Jordon, 33, a roofer, said: “I was on a roof working with my uncle, talking football. I decided to put a bet on to wind up Reds fans. At the time the talk was all about Wayne joining City or Barcelona. I never thought he would join City.”

He placed the slip in a box in his mother's house, where he was living at the time. After moving out and the room being taken over by his brother, Blaine, the slip disappeared and after Rooney's transfer was confirmed last week Jordan returned home frantically to search the house.

“I turned the house upside down to find the slip when Wayne did move to Everton - my brother was laughing, but I wasn’t - it was a lot of money! It was my first ever bet, so I remembered it clearly.”

In the end Jordon had to go into the Betfred shop in Hyde where he placed the bet and plead with the staff to pay out on his wager. After some deliberation, and a request for a handwriting sample, the firm honoured the bet and Jordon was £2,000 richer. He has said that the money will be used for the honeymoon which he couldn't afford when he married wife Roxanne.

“We originally could not afford a honeymoon with the cost of the reception, now with this £2,000 we are probably going to Majorca with our two children. I am over the moon.

“I wanted to spend the money on new tools, but there is no chance of that with Roxanne, and we will have a great time.”

Betfred owner Fred Done told Bettingpro:

“It’s amazing that a Red legend like Wayne Rooney going back to his boyhood club is paying for the honeymoon of a loyal City fan. Jordon is one of only 19 people in the country who put a bet on Rooney going to Everton at 100-1.”
