Leigh Copson: Back Brighton & Hove Albion to win to nil against Cardiff City @ 2/1 Ladbrokes

This may not be the most glamourous Premier League game taking place this week, but there will not be any more important than this meeting between Brighton & Hove Albion and Cardiff City. Brighton are just one place and five points clear of the relegation zone following last weekend’s fixture, and the team that are directly behind them, occupying the final relegation place, are visitors Cardiff. That means the outcome of this match could play a massive role in who is playing Championship football next season – so who will get the points they need at the Amex Stadium?

Brighton could not go into this match in any worse shape. The Seagulls have lost their last four games in all competitions and their most recent defeat was arguably their most embarrassing one of the season so far. Chris Hughton admitted the 5-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth on Saturday could have been even more humiliating and he will be demanding an immediate response from his side against Cardiff.

The Bluebirds are hardly flying high either. Last weekend’s 2-0 loss at Burnley was their sixth Premier League loss in seven games and time is fast running out on them in their fight for survival. They simply have to beat Brighton on Tuesday night but on glance at their away record suggests that is highly unlikely.

Cardiff have won just two of their 16 away games in the Premier League this season, collecting only eight points from a possible 48, and they have not even managed to break into double figures in terms of goals scored. Brighton, on the other hand, may have conceded five times at home this past weekend, but on the whole they do not concede many at home. They had conceded only 16 goals in 15 outings at the Amex Stadium prior to that loss to Bournemouth, so three points and a morale-boosting clean sheet appear to be a real possibility for the hosts against goal-shy Cardiff.
