Leigh Copson: Back Philadelphia to score under 19.5 total points vs. Green Bay @ 23/20 Ladbrokes

To say that Philadelphia have underwhelmed during the first three weeks of the NFL season would not be an understatement. Philly came into the season as a possible contender in the NFC, but they have gone 1-2 in their first three games, following up an opening-day win over Washington with back-to-back defeats at the hands of Atlanta and Detroit, and that means even at this stage of the season there is some serious pressure on them to turn things around quickly, especially with Dallas seemingly set to run away with the NFC East crown. So what is the last thing they need right now? A trip to Green Bay to face a Packers team who have raced out of the blocks to go 3-0.

Despite a woeful 2018 season much was expected of the Packers this time around. Matt LeFleur was brought in as head coach in the off-season and the franchise re-tooled on defense in the hope that some improved play would help complement the efforts of the offense. That unit has certainly delivered so far, giving up an average of just 11.66 points per game through the first three weeks while forcing eight turnovers, but it has needed to perform at such a high level to make up for some underwhelming play on offense. Green Bay were largely shut down offensively in the week one win at Chicago and failed to put a single point on the board in the second half of the week two home win over Minnesota, and although they did put 27 on the board against Denver in week three it is clear to see that Aaron Rodgers & Co. still have some work to do.

But while that defense continues to shine it will buy the offense time as they try to get to grips with LeFleur’s plan, and I expect it to play a major role in Green Bay improving to 4-0 on Thursday night. A short week is not favourable to either team, but it has given Philadelphia less of an opportunity to find the flaws in Doug Pettine’s unit and their previous away performance hardly bodes well for them here. The Eagles managed less than 300 yards of total offense, just 49 yards on the ground and gave up three turnovers in in Atlanta, and that spells trouble against a Packers defense that has a +6 takeover ratio through three games and has had no issues pressuring, and getting to, the quarterback so far, with their 12 sacks just one behind league leaders Jacksonville and New England at the time of writing.

Green Bay will lean on the defense once again during this short week and I expect Philadelphia to become the fourth team that fails to break the 20-point barrier against them this season.
