Leigh Copson: Back Chelsea to beat Burnley & both teams to score @ 9/4 bet365
* Odds correct at 13:43 BST on 21/10/2019

After a tricky start to his reign, Frank Lampard appears to have Chelsea heading in the right direction heading into November. The Blues legend was always going to be up against it during the first part of the season, thanks to the club’s transfer embargo, and supporters must have been worried when they were battered 4-0 at Manchester United on opening weekend and won just one of their first four games – a run that included disappointing home draws with Leicester City and newly-promoted Sheffield United. That left Chelsea in desperate need of a spark and it arrived in mid-September via one of the surprise results of the season so far.

Winning at Wolves was hardly a result that sent shockwaves through English football, but few would have predicted that Chelsea would romp to a 3-0 lead before half-time at Molineux and go on to win the match 5-2. A 2-1 home defeat to Liverpool followed, but Lampard’s side were hardly disgraced by that loss and they have responded well by reeling off three straight Premier League victories, while they go into this match on the back of a fine 1-0 midweek win at Ajax in the Europa League. Their latest domestic success, at home to Newcastle United last Saturday, maintained their place in the top five, but with several clubs breathing down their necks the pressure is on the Blues to keep this run going when they head to Burnley for this evening kick-off on Saturday.

While Chelsea have been flying, Burnley have been riding something of a rollercoaster run of form. Last weekend’s loss at Leicester halted a four-game unbeaten sequence and the Clarets are yet to string together competitive victories this season, with just three wins coming in their first 10 games. They have at least managed to win each of their last two home games, against Norwich City and Everton, but neither of those results instil much confidence when it comes to their chances of making it three home wins on the bounce on Saturday.

After all, Chelsea have now reeled off three straight away wins in the Premier League and have rattled in a combined 12 goals while doing it. They also boast an excellent record against Burnley. The Blues have won on each of their last two visits to Turf Moor, have lost only one of the last 10 competitive meetings and have not been beaten at Burnley since a 3-0 defeat in the old Division Two back in April 1983. History may not mean that much, but everything is pointing towards the away team returning home with all three points on Saturday night.

Backing Chelsea to win offers a reasonable but unspectacular price, so I am looking to back the Blues in a different way. The stand-out option is backing them to win in a match that both teams score. Burnley have failed to scored just once this season – at home to Liverpool – and they are coming up against a Chelsea backline that has not managed an away clean sheet in the Premier League this season, conceding nine goals in their four fixtures on the road so far. Burnley could be the latest club to find a way through this Blues defence, but when the final whistle blows the visitors will have scored more.
