Leigh Copson: Back Wolves Draw No Bet vs. Manchester United @ 13/10 William Hill

Manchester United made a sensational start to the new Premier League season as they hammered Chelsea 4-0 at Old Trafford on opening weekend. Marcus Rashford helped himself to a brace and both Anthony Martial and Daniel James also got on the scoresheet as United ran away with it on the scoreboard, but the final result was not a true reflection of the game. Chelsea were on top in the first half and twice clattered the woodwork before a second-half collapse cost them dear, so while United should rightfully be happy with their start, they would be wise not to get carried away.

Next up for them is a trip to face a Wolves side whose season has been up and running for several weeks now thanks to the Europa League qualifiers. The Midlands club have been cruising in their return to Europe but were unable to extend their win streak over to the domestic front on opening day as they were forced to settle for a draw at Leicester City. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side thought they had got their noses in front when Leander Dendoncker fired home a rebound, but VAR reared its head for the first time this season and the ‘goal’ was harshly ruled out because the ball had struck the arm of Willy Boly prior to that. That left Wolves having to settle for a share of the spoils and although it was a disappointment, it got them off the mark ahead of their home opener.

All of this sets up an intriguing clash with Manchester United on Monday night. The Red Devils will head to Molineux full of confidence after that opening day victory, but ‘one swallow does not a summer make’ and I am wary of getting carried away by that result. After all, United were pretty woeful on their travels in the league last season, losing almost as many games as they won, and their record against Wolves was dreadful with one draw and two defeats coming in their three meetings in all competitions. Those two losses came at Molineux too, where the hosts proved to be very difficult to beat, so I really do fancy Wolves’ chances of coming away from this match with something to show for their efforts.

The question is will it be one point or all three? I find myself leaning towards them claiming all three points, with Draw No Bet offering a spot of insurance should the spoils be shared. Wolves were able to beat Arsenal, Manchester United (twice), Liverpool and Chelsea at home last season, while drawing with Manchester City, and that record is just too good to ignore here. They can pick up from where they left off and bring United back down to Earth with a bump.
