Venezuela is determined to make history in the FIBA South American Women's Championship when it takes on Colombia in the semifinal.

The hosts have never reached the championship game of this tournament so a victory over the Colombians will be a milestone. The Venezuelans topped Group B after beating Argentina 71-67 in overtime on Monday. It was Venezuela's first ever win over Argentina in the history of women's basketball. Venezuela earlier posted victories over Peru (82-52) and Ecuador (91-46).

Waleska Perez is the No. 1 offensive threat in the squad after averaging 17 points, 6.7 rebounds and 6 assists in the group stage. For other scoring options, head coach Oscar Silva will go to Ivaney Marquez and Yosimar Corrales. Roselis Silva and top rebounder Daniela Wallen are also expected to make their presence felt as they aim to surpass their bronze-medal feat at the 2014 South American Championship in Ambato.

Colombia, meanwhile, reached the semifinal of this tournament for the first time since 2010 after finishing second to Brazil in Group A. They opened the tournament with a 79-38 demolition of Chile before losing to the Brazilians 55-76 in their second game. The Colombians bounced back with a 92-58 annihilation of Paraguay in their succeeding outing before wrapping up the group stage with an 83-42 rout of Uruguay.

Forward Mabel Martinez and center Narlyn Mosquera are the one-two punch of the Colombians. Martinez averaged 12.5 points in the group stage while Mosquera put up 12.2 points and 6 rebounds.

Maria Delgado, Maria Palacio, Maria Tapias and Jenifer Muñoz are also scoring options for head coach Luis Miguel Cuenca while Diana Prens will help Mosquera in the rebounding chores.

Colombia last reached the final of this competition in 2005 when it lost to Brazil in Bogota.
