Game 1 of the PBA Governors' Cup finals between Rain or Shine and San Mig Coffee will take place on Tuesday.

Both teams needed five games to dispose of their respective opponents in the semifinals.

Rain or Shine eliminated Alaska while San Mig Coffee ousted Talk N Text.

In their first meeting this conference, the Elasto Painters edged the Mixers 95-94 after Arizona Reid made a baseline jumper with 1.1 seconds left.

The best-of-five finals showdown between these two clubs should be exciting with the Mixers chasing a rare Grand Slam (winning all three conferences in a season).

Curiously, San Mig mentor Tim Cone was the last coach to lead a team to a Grand Slam, guiding Alaska to a three-peat in 1996. The American, who has won a record 17 PBA championships, will try to become the only coach in league history to achieve a double Grand Slam.

Rain or Shine head coach Yeng Guiao, however, will try to foil Cone's quest. Like Cone, Guiao is a multi-titled head coach in Asia's first play-for-pay basketball league having won titles with Swift, Red Bull and Rain or Shine.

The import match-up is as exciting with Reid facing San Mig's do-it-all reinforcement Marqus Blakely.

Reid (29.4 ppg, 12.3 rpg) has the edge in scoring but Blakely (19.9 ppg, 15.7 rpg, 2.6 bpg) tops him in the other statistics and is the better defensive player.

Rain or Shine's backcourt is formidable with Paul Lee (13.2 ppg) joining forces with Philippine national team mainstays Jeffrei Chan (12.4 ppg) and Gabe Norwood (7.6 ppg). Other key guards for the Painters are Ryan Araña and Chris Tiu.

Cone's tried and tested backourt boast of Mark Barroca (8.7 ppg), Peter June Simon (13.9 ppg) and two-time league MVP James Yap (11.3 ppg). Allein Maliksi and Alex Mallari could also make surprise contributions in this series.

The frontcourt battle should also be interesting although the Mixers have the edge with the burly JR Quiñahan sidelined by injury this conference. Marc Pingris (9 ppg, 6.2 rpg), Joe Devance (10.4 ppg) and rookie Ian Sangalang (5.6 ppg, 5.6 rpg) are Cone's best players up front.

Minus Quiñahan, Guiao will have to do with Beau Belga (7.4 ppg, 4.2 rpg), rookie Raymond Almazan (6.3 ppg, 5.8 rpg), Jervy Cruz and Larry Rodriguez in dealing with San Mig's bigs.

This is the third meeting between Rain or Shine and San Mig Coffee in the finals.

Rain or Shine captured its only PBA title after beating San Mig (then known as B-Meg) in the 2012 Governors' Cup finals 4-3. The Mixers, however, avenged that defeat by prevailing over the Elasto Painters 4-2 in this year's Philippine Cup.
