Portland Trail Blazers at Golden State Warriors (02:00 BST on Wednesday) - Western Conference Finals Game 1

The Western Conference finals between the Golden State Warriors and Portland Trail Blazers kick off at the Oracle Arena on Tuesday night. This is the third post-season between the two teams. The Warriors beat the Blazers four games to one in the 2016 Western Conference semi-finals and swept their first-round rematch the following season. The Warriors advanced to the conference finals for the fifth consecutive season after eliminating the Houston Rockets in six games in their semi-final duel. The Blazers, meanwhile, beat the Denver Nuggets 100-96 in their Game 7 clash at the Pepsi Centre last Sunday to reach the conference finals for the first time since 2000. The Warriors and Blazers split their two meetings in the regular season. The bad news for Golden State fans is Kevin Durant has been ruled out of Game 1 as he has yet to recover from a calf injury sustained in their Game 5 win over the Rockets. The injury prevented the former league MVP from suiting up in their series-clinching win at Houston last Friday. Durant leads the Warriors in scoring with 34.2 points per game. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson will lead Golden State in his absence. Curry is averaging 24.3 points in the play-offs while Thompson is producing 18.3 points per outing. The Splash Brothers will get support from veterans Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala. Leading Portland in their quest to reach the NBA finals for the first time since 1992 are Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, who scored 37 points in their series-clinching win over the Nuggets on Sunday. Terry Stotts’ prolific backcourt tandem will get help from frontliners Enes Kanter, Al-Farouq Aminu and Maurice Harkless. The bad news for Portland fans is the uncertain status of Rodney Hood, who hyperextended his left knee in their last game. The 26-year-old wingman has been providing quality minutes off the bench. We expect the Warriors to draw first blood in the seires.
