Unbeaten teams Australia and Iran face off in the final of the FIBA Asia Cup in Lebanon tonight.

The Boomers walloped Oceania rival New Zealand 106-79 in yesterday's semifinal while the Iranians downed South Korea 87-81. Leading Australia in its quest for a maiden FIBA Asia Cup crown are Mitch Creek, Daniel Kickert and Jason Cadee.

Head coach Andrej Lemanis also expects quality minutes from Mitchell McCarron, Olympian Brad Newley and Matt Hodgson, who topscored with 15 points against the Tall Blacks. Nicholas Kay is also out to impress their fans after posting 11 points and 10 rebounds in their last game.

Iran, meanwhile, is aiming to win its fourth FIBA Asia crown. Hamed Haddadi is a marked man for the Middle East powerhouse as the veteran center is averaging 15.8 points and tournament-highs 11.6 rebounds and 7.2 assists.

Top scorer Mohammad Jamshidi and young guards Behnam Yakhchali and Sajjad Mashayekhi are the other offensive options for head coach Mehran Hatami. Also expected to contribute are veteran big man Oshin Sahakian and forward Arsalan Kazemi, who had 19 points and 10 rebounds against the Koreans.

The last meeting between Australia and Iran in a FIBA-sanctioned event took place in the 2008 Beijing Olympics with the Boomers cruising to a 106-68 victory. Newley topscored for the Australians with 24 points while Haddadi had 15 points and eight rebounds to pace the Iranians.
