The 2017 FIBA Afrobasket will be held from September 8 to 16 in Tunisia and Senegal and all games will be shown at bet365's live streaming service.

It's the final day of competition in the FIBA Afrobasket 2017 in Tunisia. Defending champion Nigeria and host Tunisia will face off in the final at the Salle Omnisport de Rades. 

The Nigerians defeated erstwhile unbeaten Senegal 76-71 in the semifinals while the Tunisians downed Morocco 60-52. Senegal and Morocco will fight for the bronze medal in the first game.

Format and Current Teams


A total of 16 countries will participate in the 29th edition of the FIBA African Championship or Afrobasket that will be held in Tunisia and Senegal. The teams were divided into four groups of four. Defending champion Nigeria will feature in Group A along with Cote d'Ivoire, Mali and the Democratic Republic of Congo while Group B is composed of perennial medalist Angola, Morocco, the Central African Republic and Uganda. 

Playing in Group C are Tunisia, Cameroon, Rwanda and Guinea while Group D is made up of Senegal, Egypt, Mozambique and South Africa.

The top two teams in each group after a single round-robin will advance to the crossover quarterfinals where A1 will play C2, A2 versus C1, B1 against D2 and B2 versus D1.

The knockout stage will take place at the Salle Omnisport de Rades. This year's Afrobasket and the succeeding editions no longer serve as qualifying tournaments for the Olympics or FIBA World Cup.

History


The inaugural FIBA Africa Championship took place in Cairo in 1962 with the host United Arab Republic emerging as the champion. The UAR, a short-lived union between Egypt and Syria, defended its title two years later in Casablanca and won a third crown in 1970. Senegal, Egypt, Cote d'Ivoire and the Central African Republic also won multiple titles in the 1970s and 1980s. 

Angola won its first Afrobasket title in 1989 and won 10 gold medals until 2009 including six straight championships. The Angolans won a record 11th title in 2013.
