Week 1 of the Euroleague 2017-18 regular season will take place on Thursday and Friday.

Here are some key games in the Euroleague on Thursday, October 12.

Anadolu Efes vs Real Madrid (18:00 BST)

Real Madrid topped the 2016-17 Euroleague regular season only to lose to eventual champion Fenerbahce in the Final Four in Istanbul and to CSKA Moscow in the third-place battle. The consolation for Real Madrid was it won a fourth consecutive Copa del Rey title and Sergio Llull was voted as Euroleague MVP after putting up 16.5 points and 5.9 assists. Llull, however, is expected to miss much of the 2017-18 season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while playing for Spain in a Eurobasket tune-up game against Belgium in Tenerife last August. Expected to lead Pablo Laso-mentored Los Blancos in his absence are big men Gustavo Ayon and Anthony Randolph, Jaycee Carroll and Rising Star winner Luka Doncic. Randolph and Doncic helped Slovenia win its maiden Eurobasket title last month. The powerhouse club signed Serbian center Ognjen Kuzmic plus guards Fabien Causeur, Facundo Campazzo and Chasson Randle in the offseason. Efes, meanwhile, finished sixth in the 2017 Euroleague regular season and lost to Olympiacos in five games in the playoffs. Head coach Velimir Perasovic returns along with Derrick Brown, Bryant Dunston and Dogus Balbay. Among the Istanbul club's new recruits are big men Vladimir Stimac, Brock Motum, former NBA player Ricky Ledo and former EuroCup MVP Errick McCollum. Real Madrid won both meetings against Efes last season.

Unicaja Malaga vs Fenerbahce (20:00 BST)

Fenerbahce is coming off a historic 2016-17 season where it defended the Turkish League title and won its maiden Euroleague crown after beating Olympiacos 80-64 at the Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul. Fenerbahce lost several key players in the offseason including leading scorer Bogdan Bogdanovic, Final Four MVP Ekpe Udoh and veteran center Pero Antic but the Istanbul side remains a formidable unit with Bobby Dixon, Kostas Sloukas, Luigi Datome, Jan Vesely, Nikola Kalinic and James Nunnally all returning this season along with head coach Zeljko Obradovic. The Istanbul club beefed up its roster by signing Brad Wanamaker, Jason Thompson, Marko Guduric, Nicolo Melli and Sinan Guler in the offseason. Unicaja, meanwhile, earned a ticket back to the Euroleague by winning the EuroCup title last season. EuroCup Finals MVP Alberto Diaz and All-EuroCup First Team member Dejan Musli both return along with Nemanja Nedovic, Jeff Brooks and Carlos Suarez. The last meeting between Fenerbahce and Unicaja in this competition took place during the 2015-16 season with each team winning at home.
