Bitter rivals Brazil and Argentina face off in the semifinal of the FIBA South American Women's Championship at the Domo Bolivariano.

The two rivals have met in the final in 11 of the last 12 editions of the tournament including the last five with the Brazilians winning each time. Argentina, however, beat Brazil twice in last year's FIBA Americas Championship in Edmonton en route to winning the bronze medal.

Led by WNBA veterans Iziane Castro and Nadia Colhado, Brazil swept Group A after rolling past Uruguay (115-42), Chile (104-54), Colombia (76-55) and Paraguay (128-35).

Castro averaged 17 points in the group stage while Colhado put up 16.8 points and a team-high 9.5 rebounds. Kelly Santos is another threat inside the shaded area while guards Patty Ribeiro and Taina Paixao will also be counted upon by head coach Antonio Barbosa.

Brazil is the most successful country in this competition with 25 titles and has won the last 15 stagings of the continental tournament. They have featured in every championship game of this competition since 1965.

Argentina, meanwhile, finished second in Group B after posting wins over Ecuador (71-35) and Peru (89-15) and losing to host Venezuela (67-71 OT).

Leading the squad in this mouthwatering match-up is star center Gisela Vega, who averaged 17.7 points and a tournament-best 11.7 rebounds in the group phase.

Backing up the Spain-based player are Sthefany Thomas, Macarena Rosset and Andrea Boquete. Head coach Cristian Santander will also rely on defensive specialists Agostina Burani and Celia Fiorotto and pint-sized playmaker Melisa Gretter, who leads the tournament in assists.
