Continental rivals Argentina and Brazil face off in the first semifinal game in the FIBA South American Championship at the Poliedro de Caracas.

Argentina topped Group B after posting wins over Uruguay (82-58), Peru (105-43), Chile (112-71) and Colombia (97-69).

Forward Nicolas Romano emerged as the squad's top scorer in the group stage after putting up 13.8 points per game. Carlos Schattmann, Nicolas Brussino, Gabriel Deck and Javier Saiz are the other offensive options for head coach Nicolas Casalanguida.

Also expected to make key contributions are top rebounder Marcos Delia, Leonardo Mainoldi and Federico Aguerre. Argentina is aiming to reach the final of the South American Championship for the fifth consecutive time.

Brazil, meanwhile, finished runner-up to host Venezuela in Group A. Gustavo Conti's troops easily defeated Ecuador (107-65), Paraguay (101-63) and Bolivia (114-33) before losing to the Venezuelans 60-70 in their final group game on Thursday.

Top scorer and rebounder Carlos Olivinha will lead the Brazilians along with fellow frontliners Jefferson Andrade and Joao Paulo Batista. Conti will also pin his hopes on Leonardo Meindl, Rossetto Davi, Gui Deodato, Rafael Ferreira de Souza and Marcus Vinicius Toledo. Brazil last reached the final of this competition in 2010 when it defeated Argentina to win the last of its record 18 titles.

Argentina defeated Brazil 64-59 at the 2014 South American Championship. Brazil crushed Argentina 85-65 in the Round-of-16 of the 2014 FIBA World Cup although the two teams were represented by their elite players.

The winner of this game will play either Venezuela or Uruguay in tomorrow's final
