Oakland Athletics at St Louis Cardinals (00:15 BST on Thursday)

The Oakland Athletics are aiming to sweep the St Louis Cardinals in their two-game Interleague series at Busch Stadium tonight. The Athletics rallied past the Cardinals 7-3 in Tuesday’s opener. The visitors trailed 3-1 before scoring six runs in the fifth inning highlighted by homers from Chad Pinder and Marcus Semien. Matt Olson also homered for the Athletics (42-38) while Khris Davis drove in two runs. Matt Carpenter had a triple and drove in two runs to pace the Cardinals (40-38), who suffered their second consecutive defeat. Daniel Mengden (1-1) has been recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to start in place of Frankie Montas, who is serving an 80-game ban for violating the league’s performance enhancing drug policy. The 26-year-old right-hander pitched a no-decision in their 10-9 loss to the Los Angeles Angeles on June 5 in his last outing in the majors. Adam Wainwright (5-6) will pitch for the Cardinals in this game. The two-time Gold Glove winner did not earn a decision in their 7-6 home loss to Miami last Thursday where he struck out six and gave up six hits and three runs in 5 1/3 innings.

Tampa Bay Rays at Minnesota Twins (01:10 BST on Thursday)

The Minnesota Twins are out to extend their dominance over the Tampa Bay Rays when they face off again at Target Field tonight. The Twins blasted the Rays 9-4 in the opener of their three-game series on Wednesday. Jonathan Schoop and CJ Cron hit solo homers to lead Minnesota to their third win in four games and fourth in a row over the Rays this season. Eddie Rosario added four hits and drove in two runs for the league-best Twins, who improved to a 51-27 record. The Twins led 8-0 before Willy Adames hit a solo shot to put Tampa Bay on board. Michael Brosseau hit a two-run double while Brandon Lowe belted an RBI triple for the Rays (45-34), who suffered their sixth loss in eight games. Tampa Bay starter Charlie Morton (8-1) is targeting his second win over the Twins this season. The 35-year-old right-hander struck out six and gave up four hits and two runs in seven innings to lead the Rays to a 14-3 rout of the Twins last May 30. Morton had a no-decision in his last start - a 5-4 loss at Oakland on Thursday where he struck out six and gave up four hits and one run in 6 2/3 innings. Jake Odorizzi (10-3) is aiming to bounce back when he starts for the Twins. The AL wins leader had a rough outing in their 4-1 defeat at Kansas City last Thursday where he surrendered eight hits and four runs in four innings. Odorizzi was credited with their 9-7 win at Tampa Bay last June 2 after striking out nine and giving up three hits in six scoreless innings. We are backing the Twins to secure another win in the series.
