Pittsburgh Pirates at Milwaukee Brewers (01:00 BST on Saturday)

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Milwaukee Brewers kick off their three-game series at Miller Park tonight. This is the eighth meeting between the NL Central sides this season with the Brewers having won six of their first seven duels including the last five. The Brewers (43-38)  are coming ff a 4-2 win over the Seattle Mariners on Thursday to avoid a three-game sweep at home. Orlando Arcia smacked a three-run homer in the fourth inning to lead Milwaukee back on track. Team manager Craig Counsell will pin his hopes on his shortstop along with Lorenzo Cain, Christian Yelich and Mike Moustakas to lead the club in this match-up. Jhoulys Chacin (3-8) will try to shake off his struggles this season when he takes the mound for Pittsburgh. The Venezuelan righty hasn’t picked up a win since April 30 and is 0-5 in his last seven outings. Chacin lasted just 2 2/3 innings in their loss to the Pirates last May 31 after conceding six hits and seven runs. The Pirates (38-41), meanwhile, are playing well lately to inch closer to the .500 mark. Clint Hurdle’s boys crushed the Houston Astros 10-0 on Thursday to pick up their second consecutive win and sixth in seven games. Pittsburgh had five homers in that game and Hurdle expects the same intensity from his players particularly Starling Marte, Colin Moran and home run leader Josh Bell. Chris Archer (3-6) will start for Pittsburgh in this game. The 30-year-old right-hander is coming off back-to-back no-decisions. He last pitched in their 6-3 home win over San Diego last Saturday where he gave up two hits and a run in five innings. Archer was credited with their 9-4 win over Milwaukee last May 31 after striking out seven and giving up five hits and four runs in seven innings. The Pirates have the momentum that’s why we are backing them to beat the Brewers in this duel.

St Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres (03:10 BST on Saturday)

The San Diego Padres and St Louis Cardinals begin their three-game series at Petco Park. The Padres (40-40) are coming off a two-game sweep at Baltimore so they are inspired to return home. Franmil Reyes and Eric Hosmer are again out to impress for San Diego after leading the team to a 10-5 victory over the Orioles on Wednesday. Reyes hit two homers in that game while Hosmer had a two-run shot and drove in four runs. They will team up with Hunter Renfroe and Manny Machado in leading the Padres ini this match-up. Eric Lauer (5-7) is out to end a three-game slump when he takes the mound for the Padres in this contest. The 24-year-old lefty gave up five hits and two runs and struck out four in seven innings in their 2-1 defeat at Pittsburgh last Friday. The Cardinals (40-39), meanwhile, are aiming to bounce back after dropping their last three games. They were swept by the Oakland Athletics in their two-game series at home that concluded on Wednesday. Paul DeJong, Marcell Ozuna and Paul Goldschmidt are expected to lead the Cardinals in this duel. Michael Wacha (5-3) is targeting back-to-back wins he starts for the Cardinals. The right-hander struck out four and gave up five hits and one run in six innings in their 5-1 triumph over the Los Angeles Angels last Friday. Wach pitched a no-decision in their 6-4 home loss to the Padres last April 6. The Padres beat the Cardinals twice in their three meetings at Busch Stadium last April.  We expect a win for San Diego in this duel.
