The Boston Red Sox are now overwhelming favourites to win the MLB 2018 World Series after beating the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 4 to take a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Behind the solid hitting of Steve Pearce and Mitch Moreland, the Red Sox rallied past the Dodgers 9-6 on Saturday. Pearce drove in four runs while Moreland had three RBI as Boston avenged their defeat in Friday’s Game 3 that lasted 18 innings.

Boston posted an 8-4 victory in Game 1 and secured a 4-2 triumph in Game 2. Both games took place at Fenway Park.

The Red Sox reached the Fall Classic for the first time since 2013 after beating defending champion Houston Astros four games to one in the American League Championship Series. They lost the opening game before sweeping their succeeding contests.

The Dodgers, meanwhile, booked a World Series ticket for the second-straight season after disposing of the NL-best Brewers in seven games in the National League Championship Series. They are aiming to win MLB's ultimate trophy for the first time since 1988.

The only previous meeting between the Red Sox and Dodgers in the World Series took place in 1916 when the latter were still based in Brooklyn and known as the Robins.
