Joe Joyce had the opportunity to prove he was the future of the heavyweight division when he took on Zhilei Zhang at the Copper Box Arena in April – but he blew it.

The London fighter was outclassed by the Chinese boxer with Zhang dominating from the opening bell.

Zhang eventually got Joyce out of there with a sixth-round stoppage. I don’t know if Joyce underestimated Zhang, but he certainly surprised him.

The victory saw Zhang become the WBO interim heavyweight champion and that belt will be on the line again on September 23.

Rematches are difficult for both fighters. After Zhang’s dominating performance, many will expect him to do the same, but Joyce will still be hurting and he will need to make a statement.

This is basically a flip of the coin. I am backing Joyce to be a different animal, and he will box clever to get a points decision win to regain his championship belt.
