Tyson Fury’s promoters in the United States have revealed their man could take on Anthony Joshua in a huge world heavyweight title unification fight before the end of the year – if he beats Deontay Wilder, or course.

Fury is poised to challenge Wilder for the WBC title for a second time this Saturday night, and although there are tentative plans for a trilogy fight between the two men no matter the result, Top Rank claim a third encounter with ‘The Bronze Bomber’ could be shelved in favour of a huge bout with Joshua would that determine the undisputed heavyweight king.
“There is nothing stopping it [a bout between Fury and Joshua],” Top Rank president Todd DuBoef told Sky Sports. “In today’s world, we know that demand or massive interest is unparalleled.
“I’ve been in the business for 25 years. Sometimes there is interest in a fighter but not necessarily in a match. People have more choices now so the barometers have risen of what you have to present. It must be compelling. People want to see Joshua, but they want to see him in the ring with the best. Just like they want to see Fury and Wilder.
“One plus one equals 10, in this fight [between Wilder and Fury]. It isn’t Wilder against Luis Ortiz or Dominic Breazeale, or Fury against Tom Schwarz or Otto Wallin, right? The needle didn’t move as significantly as this week. And that should be our objective – to move towards [fights that capture mainstream interest].
“While we have momentum now, I’d love to see the fight later this year. Strike while the iron is hot. Fury has a really tough match in Wilder but, I believe, this is when you make matches. [Joshua v Fury] is massive across the board. We must listen to the fans, listen to the world, listen to the people supporting boxing by making these compelling matches as soon as possible.”
But can Fury take the first step in setting up a huge winner-takes-all meeting with Joshua by dethroning Wilder?
Fury’s odds have drifted over the past few weeks and having originally been an odds-on favourite with a host of leading bookmakers, William Hill believes he is now the underdog.
Fury is now Even money to win the bout, with Wilder available at 19/20, but if you do not have an online account with this bookmaker now is a great opportunity to sign up because the firm will give you the opportunity to back the challenger at big boosted odds of 30/1.
And what if Fury is victorious and goes on to face Joshua – will he unify all of the heavyweight titles?
According to William Hill the answer to that question is yes. The bookmaker has made him a 4/6 favourite for a potential meeting with the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion, with Joshua considered a slight underdog at 6/5.
