Tim Tszyu will defend his WBO light middleweight title for the first time when he takes on Brian Mendoza at the Gold Coast Convention Centre on Sunday, October 15.

Australian Tim Tszyu was recently promoted to full WBO light middleweight champion, and he will make his first defence against Brian Mendoza.
The 28-year-old became interim champion back in March when he stopped Tony Harrison in Sydney. He then defended that belt three months later when he knocked out Carlos Ocampo in the first round.
He was scheduled to defend his interim belt against Mendoza, but full champion Jermell Charlo was stripped of the WBO strap seconds before facing Canelo Alvarez last month for refusing to fight his mandatory challenger.
That meant the belt was awarded to Tszyu and he will put it on the line against Mendoza.
Tszyu is a phenomenal fighter – whether he is better than his father Kostya is yet to be determined – and he has a professional record of 23 fights and 23 wins with 17 by KO/TKO.
This will be Tszyu’s third fight in 2023 and I cannot see anything other than a knockout win for the Australian.
Mendoza is no mug though. He has a pro record of 24 fights, 22 wins and two defeats. He has won his last three fights by stoppage against Benjamin Whittaker, Jeison Rosario and Sebastian Fundora.
He is a decent fighter, but he has not really been in the ring with anyone like Tszyu. Back Tszyu to win this fight by knockout in the fifth round.
