Teofimo Lopez v George Kambosos Jr WBA (Super), IBF, WBO & The Ring Lightweight Title Fight Tips & Predictions

American Teofimo Lopez will put all his belts on the line in his first title defence against Australia’s George Kambosos Jr in New York this weekend. Is this start of a long reign for the Brooklyn fighter, or is he a flash in the plan with a big mouth?

Lopez is not everybody’s cup of tea, and a lot of people were not happy when he wrestled the belts away from Ukrainian superstar Vasiliy Lomachenko. Now don’t get me wrong, Lopez deserved the win after the way he dominated the opening seven rounds. I just think Loma was a better role model and a better champion.

I will probably be proved wrong, and Lopez will end up being a great champion, but there is something that I don’t quite like. It is reported he didn’t give Loma a rematch because the Ukrainian’s camp were being d***s to himself and his father – well from the outside looking in, it felt like it was the other way around.

Lopez is a good fighter, I will not deny that. He has 16 victories under his belt with 12 of them by way of knockout. He knows how to control fights. I suppose I just like my fighters who have respect for the sport and his opponents.

What do we know about George Kambosos Jr? This Aussie fighter is also unbeaten. He has won 10 of his 19 victories by knockout, so he obviously can pack a punch.

You can argue that Kambosos Jr has not been in with top-quality opposition on a regular basis. His last fight was at the SSE Arena last October when he defeated Lee Selby on points. He has also recorded victories against Micky Bey, Jose Feroro and Krai Setthaphon.

Kambosos Jr has a one-inch height advantage over Lopez, but Lopez has the better reach. Lopez is very methodical in his approach. I admit I am not a fan of him personally, but I cannot deny his talent.

I feel he will dominate the opening five or six rounds and knock the wind out Kambosos Jr’s sail. This will then allow him to finish it in the later rounds. I am backing the American to get the Aussie out of there in the 11th and keep hold of his belts. Lopez has stopped three of his last opponents, and I believe he will stop Kambosos Jr as well. I hope I am wrong, as I personally would like Kambosos Jr to take all the belts.

Teofimo Lopez v George Kambosos Jr WBA (Super), IBF, WBO & The Ring Lightweight Title Fight Tips & Predictions: Fighter’s Predictions

Teofimo Lopez: “Disrespect me is one thing, disrespect my family there’s no other way, that’s breaking your neck, I’m willing to do that. I won’t kill a man, I let God deal with people like that. However, he (George Kambosos Jr) plays the biggest role right now, my toughest competition to date. He is the guy who is willing to fight me and take all that I’ve been working hard for. I have that vision. I don’t look over someone, I look through them. With Kambosos it’s going to be that prime example that everything that has happened from Triller, from his managers, everyone that has done something to harm my food on my table for my son. I can’t do it to them, but I can do it to the guy that’s in front of me. Kamabosos is going to get a whole bunch of that and more, because that’s what I’m working hard for. I’m setting an example for everybody, don’t f**k with me. I’m nice when I need to be, but don’t f**k with me, not my food.”

George Kambosos Jr: “My speed and the way I move and explosive power and shots that I land and throw and the punches in bunches and the combination punches that I have in my artillery, and my stamina and my fitness is just too much for this kid. He’s been saying he’ll knock me out first round. Before he got COVID on June 19, he said he was going to knock me out within three, so what’s changed? His fitness and his stamina is nowhere near what it has to be so he’s hoping and he’s praying that it’s one round because it has to be. What’s he going to do for the next 11 when he doesn’t get that first-round knockout? If that’s his only game plan, then he’s in big, big trouble. I’m fully prepared. I’m ready for 12 rounds. I’m old school so, if they want, we can do 15 rounds like the greats of our sport. I’ve got a big motor. Throughout the 12 rounds, I keep going. Every round I keep getting better and better and keep throwing more punches. But my defence is so underrated in the boxing world. I’m super sharp and my reflexes, my head movement, my footwork in and out, they’re going to find out the hard way – Lopez is. They don’t believe in my defence and think this is going to be an easy fight for him, but they’re going to find out the hard way.”
