Mikaela Mayer v Alycia Baumgardner Female Boxing Betting Tips
If you read my Claressa Shields versus Savannah Marshall preview, you will notice I said that it could be the fight of the year – well this one could be second best.
This fight should be an absolute classic on the Shields v Marshall undercard at the O2 Arena in London.
British boxing fans will be quite familiar with Baumgardner after her last two fights took place in the United Kingdom.
She announced herself in the country with a dominant victory over Terri Harper in Sheffield when she stopped her in the fourth round to take her WBC and IBO super featherweight title.
She then went to Manchester for her first title defence and defeated Edith Soledad Matthysse on points to set up this mouth-watering clash.
Mayer is a champion herself. She holds the WBO and IBF versions of the super featherweight title and will be determined to add Baumgardner’s belts to her collection.
Mayer is the only one of these fighters that is undefeated as a professional. She has won all 17 fights with five coming by way of knockout with 12 by decision.
Baumgardner only has one defeat on her record. She was beaten by Christina Linardatou – no shame in that – in 2018 as she lost her WBC title.
Since then, Baumgardner has won six fights in succession and looks to be getting better and better. Sometimes a defeat can make you as a fighter, and possibly that Linardatou loss was a blessing in disguise.
This one is very difficult to call. I admire both fighters. They are both worthy champions, but I am letting my heart rule my head in this one. Baumgardner was too strong and clever for Harper and that was hard to take.
So, I am hoping Mayer wins and I am backing her to go the distance and get her arm raised at the end. Both fighters will be landing bombs, but due to the rounds only lasting two minutes, I cannot see a knockout happening.
Mikaela Mayer v Alycia Baumgardner Female Boxing Betting Tips: Fighter's Predictions
Mikaela Mayer: “There is beef, the beef is real. Listen, I’m a champion and as a champion, I want to put on the best fights possible. I want to challenge myself against the best and so, when Alycia Baumgardner beat your guy’s girl Terri Harper for the WBC belt, I immediately started calling her out. There’s going to be fireworks all week. We’ve never officially been face to face, for the camera, but yeah we’ve been waiting for it.”
Alycia Baumgardner: “The only thing Mikaela brings is what she always brings, which is an amateur style fighter. She’s a one-dimensional fighter, she looks the same as she did in the amateurs as she does in the pros. There are levels to this game and I believe she’s only maybe up a notch in her career, I don’t see anything that stands out to me. I’m not looking up Mikaela Mayer’s fights, she’s not that impressive to me. Credit to her for what she’s done but she’s not at my level, I just believe she’s a one-dimensional fighter. She’s basic, as they say.”
