Katie Taylor v Miriam Gutierrez Predictions & Tips

Road to Katie Taylor v Miriam Gutierrez

Katie Taylor returns to action on November 14 as she puts her WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO lightweight titles on the line – along with The Ring belt – against Miriam Gutierrez from Spain.

Taylor’s bout with Gutierrez will be the headline act, with WBC and IBO super featherweight champion Terri Harper taking on Katharina Thanderz and Rachel Ball battling Ebanie Bridges for the vacant WBA bantamweight title.

Taylor has yet to be defeated as a professional – although Delfine Persoon will argue against that. Taylor and Persoon first faced off back in June 2019 with Taylor taking Persoon’s WBC title to add to her collection – although many thought the Irish star actually lost the fight.

They got in the ring again on August 22 2020 at Fight Camp with Taylor claiming a unanimous points decision to settle the argument once and for all.

Spain’s Gutierrez is also unbeaten as she enters her 14th fight as a professional. She has won five of her 13 fights by way of knockout, with eight going the distance.

Gutierrez is clearly a good fighter – or she wouldn’t be getting the opportunity to fight for all the gold – but she has not faced off against anyone as good as Taylor. She has defeated Mariam Tatunashvili twice, while her last fight was a unanimous decision over Karen Batiz last November when she won the vacant WBA interim lightweight title.

Katie Taylor v Miriam Gutierrez Predictions & Tips

Katie Taylor is a model professional, and she will treat Gutierrez like any other opponent and will not be looking past her.

Taylor put in a sterling performance at Fight Camp when she outboxed Persoon and claimed a unanimous decision. The more rounds she gets under her belt, the tougher she is to beat.

Both of these fighters cannot really be classed as knockout merchants. Taylor has won six of her 16 fights by knockout, while Gutierrez has won five of her 13 bouts by that method.

The women’s fights are only two-minute rounds, so it’s quite difficult to gain enough momentum in a round to secure a quick knockout. For that reason, I am expecting this fight to go the distance, Gutierrez will put up a good fight, but she will not trouble Taylor. The Irish superstar will take this one on points.

Katie Taylor v Miriam Gutierrez Tips: Fighter Predictions

Katie Taylor: “I’m delighted to be headlining another fight night on Sky Sports. When I turned professional, it was a bit of a step into the unknown in terms of how it all would go so to have these opportunities to headline cards is something I never take for granted.

“It’s been a pretty quick turnaround from my last fight but I’m always looking towards the next challenge and I really wanted to fight again before the end of the year. The pandemic has obviously made it a very uncertain time in terms of scheduling fights so I’m really excited to have a date to focus on.

“I’m expecting a very tough fight against an undefeated challenger, but I’ve been back in training camp in the US for the past couple of weeks and I’m looking forward to successfully defending my titles on November 14.”

Miriam Gutierrez: “I am very happy, eager and excited. I am preparing myself 100% for this fight with Katie. This is the great challenge that I have pursued in my sports career, to be able to fight for the undisputed crown.”
