Road To Katie Taylor v Delfine Persoon

This is not the first time that Katie Taylor and Delfine Persoon have shared a ring together, and you could say there is some unfinished business. Taylor became the undisputed women’s lightweight world champion in only her 14th professional bout as she ended the Belgian’s reign as the WBC and The Ring champion. The Bray fighter was given a majority decision points win after 10 rounds with the judges scoring it 95-95, 96-94. 96-94. A lot of people disagreed with the decision with Carl Frampton labelling the decision ‘disgraceful’, while Persoon left the ring in tears feeling she had done enough to earn the victory. At the time, Taylor admitted it was the hardest fight of her career and if Persoon wanted a rematch then she could have one. Taylor’s next fight was a unanimous decision over Christina Linardatou and after she agreed to fight Amanda Serrano, it looked like a rematch against Persoon would never happen. Due to pandemic that swept the world, the Serrano bout was postponed twice and Persoon has since stepped in to take her place and will be looking to win all the titles in Brentwood on the undercard of Dillian Whyte versus Alexander Povetkin. Persoon has also just fought once since her defeat to Taylor in 2019, she claimed a unanimous points decision over Helen Joseph at the end of last year to win the WBA interim super featherweight title.

Taylor Persoon Betting Tips

Katie Taylor was pushed all the way against Delfine Persoon when they met at Madison Square Garden in June 2019, and she will need all her fighting instincts to get out of this one with all her belts. Persoon clearly believes she won that first fight, and she is not alone, but the fact is Taylor inflicted only the second defeat of her established career and she will be eager to make sure a third is not on the horizon. Both fighters will want to end this before the judges get involved, that will end any controversy of who the deserved victor is. Unfortunately, the judges will once again be involved with the final decision. I cannot see Taylor knocking Persoon out and vice versa, so it’s up to both fighters to be dominant and land the scoring punches to make the decision a comfortable one. Taylor will not make the same mistakes like she did in the first fight, she looked quite comfortable at the halfway stage and was clearly ahead on points, but the latter half of the fight saw Persoon take control and the Irishwoman looked tired and out on her feet come the final bell. She will be a lot more fitter and will be in better condition for this fight as she will look to end the stronger, back Taylor to take this one on points.

Taylor Persoon Betting Tips: Fighter Predictions

Katie Taylor: “With Amanda Serrano not taking the fight, I wanted the biggest fight possible in August, and I think a second Persoon fight is one that everyone wants to see. I’ve been looking forward to a rematch ever since the first fight, and I’m delighted it’s been made. It was definitely very close first time around, but I felt I deserved the win and I intend to leave no doubts in the rematch.

Delfine Persoon: “In the first fight there was a lot of holding, holding, holding. In another country they would tell you: ‘Don’t hold’ then take away a point. But they never spoke about her holding me. In the fourth round her trainer said: ‘Grab her arms!’ Is she going to run and grab me? For the people, that is not a good fight. Ten rounds of running with one or two punches is not a fight that people want to see. Take the first punch, answer, jab, come in, go out. Katie throws one shot, runs away, then grabs. I hope she wants a nice fight – two boxers to go for it, and the best boxer wins. Let’s show that two women can have a spectacular fight. But I don’t think she will.”
